you'd be surprised. they won't even touch the trans once they think it may be the problem. may just be an electrical issue.

so are you saying the dealership is fully lying about replacing the transmission? They lied about ordering one, lied about the paperwork indicating the transmission was replaced? Seems like a lot of risk by them, right?

Usually they will check all codes for faulty sensors first related outside the transmission before pulling it.

    Update:
Now they are telling me they also found a "coolant leak at the bypass pipe" and will cost $433.78 to replace.
I did not know I had a leak and is this a repair I could do myself?

Probably this. I'd try to have them reduce the labor cost though. If I recall correctly it's much easier with the trans out which is how they probably saw it.

Could but if they already have the tranny out you might as well have them do it.

Probably that plastic coolant pipe. That thing is right there with the transmission out (I think)... Push back on labor cost... (still BS that it isnt in the powertrain warranty)

For funsies, I'd suggest renting one for a couple of days just to see if you like it first.

Not the situation b/c I wasn't getting rid of it, but while my '10 Tacoma (single cab 2.7L) was getting the frame inspection they gave me a F150 double cab 4x4. Not sure what engine but I don't believe Ecoboost. Definitely liked it though it is more truck than I could even foresee needing.

    Update:
No real answer from the dealership on the transmission, simply "there was an internal failure".
The cost would have been $5200 if it wasn't covered by the warranty.

I've since traded the tacoma in on a 2020 Tundra (at another dealership). Amazingly, the dealership gave me $30K for my trade in so it was hard to pass on the deal.

My last bit of Tacoma business is to sell my clazzio seat covers.

I've enjoyed the information on this forum and wish everyone well.

Update since I've had the Tundra for a few months now. I'm very happy I traded in my Tacoma. The extra space, engine power, and proper transmission behavior are all welcome upgrades. While I enjoyed my Tacoma, if I could do it over again, I would have certainly purchased the Tundra straight away.

Congrats on the new truck. Sometimes I want to move up to a full size but I have a hard time buying a tundra that's 5 years behind it's competition. Glad you like the Tundra.

I'll agree i miss the tundras bed. It was nice to have a wider bed, and a way nicer ride...at least in my 2001 tundra, but thats where it ends. Transmission behaves the same in the tacoma plus its got more top end poop. Added bonus i'm not paying nowhere as much for fuel every week, plus my insurance is now less with the tacoma.

Tundra is a nice truck but the 13/17mpg is painful.
