4runner just hit 10k. I had the free Maintenance and had them do my oil change at 5k instead of 10k. Anyways, I decided to do my own and did my oil change this evening. Holy wow, never knew these techs were this bad.

my oil filter cap was warped from being over torqued, I had to beat it in and beat it out of the removal tool. Ended up replacing the plastic one with a metal one. They forgot the bushings as well.

my drain plug was also over torqued along with no crush ring.

I had around 7.2 quarts of oil in the motor, so it was over filled by .6 quarts.

My oil cap was over tightened. No clue how this happened as no tool touches it.

I understand the lowest skilled dudes are doing this, but come on.

However it’s my fault for even trusting them in the first place.

I bought my 4R in February and the dealer called me for the maintenance reminder. I only have 1200 miles on it since it’s not my daily driver. I’ll let them do it but I’ll definitely be checking their work.

Checking the oil level to begin with. Crawling underneath and looking at the oil filter cap, looking for excess oil that gets spilled and not cleaned up.

It really is cheaper to just do it right yourself if you can.

also consider marking the oil drain plug to the oil pan and the oil filter cap to the oil filter housing using a paint pen or a brightly colored nail polish. If it's broken when you get it back, at least you know they messed with it. Have heard of dealerships either not touching the oil or not replacing the filter sometimes.
