Toyo Oberve GSi5 have been most excellent with price, wear, traction, and they use the hardest plant material in the tread blocks for extra bite.

There are better tires but the best bang for the buck imo are Yokohama ice guards.....

I know these are A/T tired but you guys think I can get away with using Toyo Open Country A/T II or KO2’s for Canadian winter?

Thanks for the input! Any thoughts on the stock tires that comes with Tacoma during winter? (Goodyear wranglers)
I just got my 2020 tacoma and this will be its first winter so I’m just inquiring whether or not I need to buy an actual set of winter tires this coming winter.

The stock Goodyears were terrible here in MN. I regret not swapping them out immediately.

I'm in Ontario and ran the Goodyear wranglers from January onward. They are fine in snow, but not great on ice. Not enough sypes(?) or whatever the waves are. The idea is that they are supposed to pack with snow since the coefficient of friction between snow/ice is better than rubber/ice. No two ways about it; fewer of those little grooves means less traction on ice. You can make it work, but forget about driving that one or two days a year when there is horrible black ice.

I like the idea of all-seasons, but I'm just not sure they stand the test in Canada.

KO2s are my winter tires, but they are crappy. Better than stock, but not as good as any other winter tires I've had.

    This is so true!!!!
Best all around winter tire. Blizzack, beats them if you want purely ice performance.

I have been running General grabber at2 here in Vermont year round............I am due for new tires and was thing about going to the Goodyear Wrangler Duratracks. The Grabbers work out good except for a few days when the hill i live on is ice.

If ice performance is the most important than go with Blizzak!

I have do a lot of winter driving in bad weather. As my primary passion is ice climbing. DM-V2 is the best ice tire! I switch out tires at about 60% tread life as I'm not willing to use a tire after it losses any major performance.

For the best all around winter tire I recommend the Nokian.

I took delivery on a set of Nokian Hakkapeliitta lt3's 265/75 r16 on a set of Unique 42 steel rims. I have to wait for it to cool off before I mount them but I plan on giving some feedback when winter shows up here in Minnesota.

Looking forward to that. My Blizzaks will last at least one more winter, probably two. The Hakkas are next on my list

Ordered up 255/70R17 Blizzak DM-V2 Going on the fjc steelies Tues. I can put them one once it gets cold.

V2 have noticeably more gap and groove that my V1 they are replacing.

Going 255/70 saved me $30/tire from 265/65 size..
