Hi Everyone! We have a 2014 Tacoma SR5 w/ 98k mileage on it. We are it's 2nd owner, great condition, but we are still making payments on it. Long way to go. However, we're now a family of 4, living in Florida from Indiana. Backseat gets hot since there's no AC and somewhat cramped w/ our 4 & 1 yr. old. This is our only vehicle and had to let one go due to major life event. Seriously thinking of trading it for highlander. Interest rate is high. So should be trade in our tacoma while it is less than 10 yrs. old and less 100k miles w/ good value, trade it for highlander for almost the same amount of loan duration /w higher monthly but much lesser mileage & newer gen? Or just wait for the next 4 years to pay the tacoma w/ more than 150k miles on and it's be 10 yrs. old by then? Please help.

Seems like the Tacoma isn't going to cut it for what your needs are regardless of payments or trade in etc.

Going to be paying for a while anyway so might as well make the jump to the highlander or other models like 4Runner / Rav4. They have more back seat space and rear AC. Whatever option you pick, making the jump will suit your family better and at the end of the day, that's what you're going for from what I'm reading.

    Welcome!

Since winter driving isn't a concern anymore I vote trade it in for a Prius, Camry, or Corolla.

    Good luck!

PS: You can take the family out of the Midwest but you'll never rake the Midwest out of the family.

Down here in south Florida you need a/c, even in the dead of winter. Don't laugh, it does get chilly here for about a week.

Exactly what we've been thinking. Something that my kids can be comfortable w/ for the next 4-5 yrs w/ a newer vehicle like highlander since we are still 4 years away from paying the 2014 tacoma w/c might have lesser value by then. Although, was not happy w/ when I learned what the the interest rate. So much to think about. Thanks for responding!

Awful. That's why I'm torn. Newer vehicle w/ lower mileage but higher payment or stick w/ what we have.

I always thought my Highlander was under powered. Fed it 91 octane$. How about a 4Runner?

If you are going to be going into more debt, you should probably get only the options that are necessary. if you don’t need 4wd, don’t get it. Anything you don’t need is more of an expense.
It’s good you are sticking with Toyota, as it should still be worth something and still running once it’s paid off.

I’m not bashing other brands, it seems to me I see more older Toyota’s (and Honda) that are well past paid off and still running.

If you have a/c but just not in the rear then you should be ok. You just have to make sure the truck is blowing out cold a/c and not cool a/c. If you have the funds for a new car then I recommend the 4runner over the highlander. 4runner have better build quality and alot of aftermarket parts.

Did that but my son still says it's hot often. This DC was originally for my husband's work when we lived in Indiana. Our primary vehicle was a 17 crv touring but had to let it go when my husband had a hemorrhagic stroke. Chose to keep his tacoma instead knowing that he really loves it but things changed since our family has grown. Decisions... decisions.. =(

The back of my 2014 has AC vents at the rear, but it's on the floor and kind of useless, so I see what you're talking about.
If you chose to keep the truck, Tacoma's hold their value well, so you have that going for you.
You could run another fan in the back if that would help any.
Would you entertain a used vehicle if you sold your Tacoma?

I believe the Camry XLE has rear seat A/C. I've sat in the back seat of my '15 Tacoma and could feel air, but I'm an adult. I could see where a 1 yo - 4 yo wouldn't feel it - too short.

True but I'm just thinking that by the time it's paid off, it might be worth a lot less that it is now.
And yes, we were already looking at 2018 highlander le plus fwd w/ 31k miles on it for $25k but it was the interest rate that us made forego - for now. We just need to step back and ask and figure things out.

If we have the funds, we would do it in a heartbeat. My husband would be so happy. We've always wanted a 4runner or land cruiser. Maybe when we retire. lol

But I heard 4runner is not that roomy..? In case we have the in-laws to travel...
