You are right. I looked at them and disabling the tweeter is much easier said than done too. I'm no audiophile so the 3 ways will be a vast improvement for me. Looking forward to it. Thanks again for the replies!

Do you feel you lost any bass by replacing the stock component 6x9's with the Kicker 3-way 6x9's in the front doors? Does it sound weird having highs coming from the dash and also the floor now?

I too purchased the "6 Kicker speaker setup" but have only installed the dash tweeters so far. I keep going back and forth on installing the door speakers or returning them - I have 7 days left for the Crutchfield 60-day return period.

Lost any bass? The kickers put out Way more bass. They are a far superior speaker in every way.. Could you have found a better one? Of course, you could’ve spent thousands on speakers. For the money you’ll be hard-pressed to beat it.

I got the fronts in tonight and it definitely sounds waaaaayy better. Just comparing the two (old and new) on the bench you can tell that the new one HAS to be much better. The stock one are SUPER cheap...

Anyone have any info on what size speakers are in the front doors of a 2015 Tacoma Prerunner Access Cab? I've done some research and some have 5 1/4, and 6x9. Which one is it?

So, after using the Kicker set up for a while now, what do you think of them?

I'm definitely in the same boat as you were and WAY overthinking things. I'm worried that the dash Kicker tweeters combined with the 3-way is gonna result in tweeter overkill.

Plus the Kicker CS speakers are $110 these days, so I'm thinking that maybe there's something better available now in the $100 - $125 range.

the factory hole will accept a 6x9, that’s what the OEM speaker is. Anything smaller than that will fit with the right adaptor. Most people install a 6.5” in the lower door location because that size is common and there are plenty of options to choose from. A 6x9 component set is harder to find.

Regarding installing a 3way speaker in the lower door location and retaining a HF speaker, I don’t recommend it. It’s just not the right way to do it. It won’t sound as good as it can/should because you’ll end up with an out of balance spectrum, and the frequencies coming from both locations won’t be time aligned.

You CAN do it, but it’s not something I’d ever do.

I am far from an audiophile but I have been very happy with them. Possibly the best upgrade I’ve done for the amount spent on them. Highly recommend!
