    @Jesseheath
Are you running 30x9.5 15s with no RUB and no LIFT? Looks like you did the black box mod, wondering on the rub and lift. TIA. I have a 5 lug and want to keep steelies and am debating 30x9.5 or 235/75/15s.

You won’t rub with 235/75/15, but you might with the 30’s.

Gotcha - that's what I keep hearing.....might, maybe. Hoping someone w/ experience chimes in.
Any idea the difference (in tire height) betw the 235s and the 30's?

I had 235/75/15s with a Fat Bob's lift. No rubbing at all no removing the black black box.

As far as tire height, each brand and model is different, you should be able to look on their website and it will tell you the height. Just remember, an inch taller tire will only net you a 1/2" of ground clearance. 1/2" on top and a 1/2" on the bottom.

Gotcha and thank you. With 235/75/15s I understand that the black box does NOT have to be removed. Is that your understanding also? Thanks again

on the 30s are they rubbing at all without a lift? I know you have to do the black box mod w/ the 30s but am debating on 235/75/15 vs. the 30s

235's shouldn't rub without a lift - you should still have minimal clearance - if not, pop in a 5 mm spacer to offset out from the wheel-well - based on using same set of rims with OEM off-set..

thanks and will do - wanna make for sure I exhaust the 30s as I want the biggest (and highest) tires I can get before making the move on the 235s. My alternative plan is looking at 245/65/17 so I can get the most height w/out a lift, hence the ongoing debate on 235/75/15 vs. 245/65/17 since I'm not doing a lift. I also want to consider the power loss w the 17s so go back and forth a bunch lately...235s or 245s? Appreciate any thoughts you might have from experience and what you considered.

235's are the maximum tire size for the OEM rim set.

I went from 215/70R15 on stock rims, to 225/75R16 with a new rim-set, initially. No rubbing at that point. i hadn't got to the lift/next tire change at that time. The tire circumference was 29.8" with that combo.

Next cycle involved 235/85R16 at 31.7" .. that definitely requires a level-lift change.

would you recommend 235s or bump up to 245/65/17?

I can't recommend anything.. i've been 5 years away from my own change-out, so my memory isn't what it was in terms of details.

My gut feeling with 245 width - unless you ARE doing a level lift, and doing something to make sure you've got offset/back-spacing correct on new 17" rims to bring them out from under the fender some, you are going to be firmly rubbing against frame rails.

I would suggest getting intimately familiar with tire size calculator , as well as role that off-set/back-spacing plays, in rim choices and compatibility.

I got a 16" replacement set, that by coincidence, was VERY close to OEM offset/back-spacing figures, which made my upgrade task very straight forward.

Keep in mind - our rims are of the type more normally used with cars, FWD specifically - the 5-lug Tacoma is a Parts-bin special, after all. To increase tire size substantially - other changes will need to be considered... re-gearing, lift, frame clearance, etc.

    my $.02...

gotcha and thank you very much for the points and your perspective - leaning 235s vs. 245s and 17s unless someone on here tells me differently - thanks again - any and all feedback welcomed

My 2015 with Hankook Dynapro ATm3 235/75R15 tires.
Stock suspension and no rubs anywhere.
The rear end looks low because it's parked on uneven ground.

Nice - thanks for sharing the photo. I'm considering 235s Falken Wildpeak At3W - how do you like the Dynapro ATm3s? The BF Goodrich KO2's are a bit to heavy I believe.

    Really diggin the look.

Really like your setup. I’m looking to do the same. Can you inform me on what spacers you installed? I have a shell just like yours except my rig is white. Also what’s the ride like with the 30” tires? And did you run into any problems over the years?

No idea, it was so long ago. I have not had the truck in so many years...lol but I am sure it took a hit with such big tires and lift. Performance definitely took a hit and the truck was slower.
