Regarding foolish, it really depends on the dealer trade-in price. There is value, especially in tax credit states, for trading in. However, not at low wholesale in the current market.

Custom ordered a Tacoma two weeks ago. Might be available around Thanksgiving.
Had to go custom because GST almost never orders Access Cab 4x4s.
Negotiated deal is $3000 less than the configuration price below.
Special circumstances, my dad has bought more than 50 vehicles from one salesman in Texas, and at this point there is no negotiating.
Dad asks for the good price and the salesman sends the best he can do. Then it's just yes or no.
And yes, these are always cash deals.

I shopped it around to my local Dallas dealers and they were all +$1000 to +2700 on top of the configuration price.

    First post!

Put my deposit on an Army Green TRD Off-Road Double Cab Long Bed a couple of weeks ago. Supposed to be delivered beginning of October. So stoked! And I got super lucky to have walked into this one. Inventory is nonexistent here in Boise. There was one 2020 SR5 extended cab on the lot and a 2017 DCSB, and that was it. Out of about 12 2021 Tacomas allocated to them, 10 had deposits on them already two weeks ago. Looked around at other local dealers in surrounding states and same stories. Tough market. I didn't go in wanting a LB, but after some research, I am happier to have it than a SB, I think.
    1. 2021 TRD OR, Army Green, DCLB
    2. Base model $37,890
    3. + Installed packages: $5478 (Emissions, LED headlights, TRD Premium OR package, Technology, All-weather floor liners/door sill protectors, Black emblem overlays)
    4. Cost of dealer add ons- I'm going to add a bed liner and tonneau cover, cost TBD, but quoted $1000 for cover.
    5. Before TTL: $44,543
    6. Discount 1- Nothing
    7. Incentive- TBD, probably $2000 if there is one.
    8. Price Out The Door - TBD
    9. Trade in vehicle- None
    10. Date purchased- 9/18/20
    11. State purchased- ID

I think that's as good of a price as you'll get these days for an OR. I assume it's a 2021? I'm talking to a couple different Costco dealers in Northern California and best I can find for a 2021 TRD OR DCLB is $1000-1500 off MSRP at best. Everyone else is $5k markup over MSRP.

    Just ordered a 2021 SR5 DCSB V6 4x4 last night:

    1. 2021 SR5, Cement, DCSB
    2. Base MSRP $35,305
    3. Delivery Fee $1,095
    4. Installed options, wheel locks, door sill protectors, & mudflaps: total $288
    5. Total Price MSRP $36,688
    6. Price paid before TTL $34,800
    7. No vehicle trade in
    8. Date purchased 9.30.2020
    9. Purchased in Connecticut

Not the greatest price but I felt it was fair enough given the current market and I was tired of spending my days at dealerships. Hoping there is an incentive at the time of delivery to bring the price down a bit but we will see. Most of the dealers I talked to didn't want to come off of MSRP for a 2020 and wouldn't negotiate any more than the $1,000 Toyota rebate. Just glad that I won't be spending any more time talking to salesmen.

Tactic I ran into here at a few dealers, they promise they'll "beat any price" but then when you show up there's a gazillion reasons why they can't match or beat it. Hopefully his deposit is refundable.

Dealer I'm working with gave me a "it won't be any more than" price when I put a deposit down... could be lower if there are rebates when it's delivered, but wouldn't be higher. He also told me that rebates weren't really happening for Tacomas, so don't expect it.

Hi Rick, This was from Lynch Toyota in Manchester. I worked with Mike and Clayton, by far the most pleasant car salesman I've dealt with. Very fair and didn't pull any BS like many others do. -Tanner

Interesting, I thought that would be standard. When I ordered an Audi (actually ordered, not allocated) you know the MSRP when confirming options/packages, but the final price is to be negotiated upon delivery. Once the car is delivered if you don't agree to terms you don't have to purchase it and you'll get your $500 deposit back. The only exception is if you order something they consider extreme i.e. an orange interior and lime green exterior, you don't have to buy it, but they won't refund your $500 deposit.

Is that for an automatic? That seems like a good deal!! I paid 34,900 for my 2020 about 6 weeks ago with no tech pkg in a manual which saves a lot anyhow.

I really like the off road Army green, thought about a Pro but I think i will just ask for a 3 inch lift instead . 48k in Canada for the off road premium though, doubt anyone is getting a deal up here because of shipping

I actually have one coming in at the end of October for TRD off road premium at just a bit more than 2k off from MSRP, that's what the dealer told me before they released the pricing for 2021, I will post the actual price once I sign the papers.

I did the trick where people send emails to all the dealers in the region and this is the best price I got, there are a couple of dealers offering $1500 off and there are a bunch of dealers won't negotiate at all.
