    Hey guys,

So I wheel alone a lot, and unfortunately have to keep it very safe because I have no winch. Well, the HF 12k lb one is on sale for just under $300... I only have a rear hitch right now but will be getting a steel bumper probably this Christmas. Would I be dumb for not grabbing this and an inexpensive hitch winch cradle?

I really haven't heard anything bad from anyone that's actually owned a Badlands winch, the negative comments usually seem to just come from the "Harbor Freight is Chinese junk" crowd.

@Speedytech7 got one of these not too long ago, don't know anyone else with the 12k one

I've done a mod or two

Obviously it's a bit big, especially for a small truck and smallish bumper. But I'm pleased so far, it's remarkably well constructed and the kit is very complete in cluding heavy duty cutoff switch and ground cables.

    No complaints so far.

I extended the clutch lever to go through the top of the bumper because it isn't clockable

Thanks! Is that the one with synthetic line and wireless remote? If so, do you know if it's the same winch, just different accessories?

Yeah, this one is slightly more fancy than the basic 12k with steel cable. From what I understand the internals are similar, just doesn't have the features or the plastic case

You can always go with WARN's EVO line which is more budget friendly but their warranty and quality are still better than hf and smittybilt. Their 10k steel line goes for $550 and you can always swap out for synthetic in the future. I've heard of people swapping out their steel cable with HF synthetic line that you can buy on the side now

Also depends on what you plan on doing and where you live. If I lived near a hf and did occasional pulls, then hf it is along with their extended warranty.

I appreciate it man, thank you. I am still new to this and living in NY, there are very few options to actually wheel. There are a few off road parks around me that all require another vehicle though. Chances are I would never be in a position where I would be seriously in danger without a bullet proof winch. This would more be from exploring off shoots and just getting stuck in mud or something, I'm not trekking across miles of deserted area. I think for my needs the HF with warranty would be good. I also passone every day on my way home from work. Thanks again!
