The automatic shifter assembly on my sons truck is very loose and shifted down to 2 nd gear by itself. How do you tighten it up to stay in place? Tia!!

What about the shorter shaft under the skirt? Does it have one on each end as well?

I am not really sure what you are asking, but I will tell you, my shifter was VERY sloppy when I purchased 1995 truck with about 250,000 and replacing just these two bushings completely cured the problem.

Yes, it also has those bushings. However, you have to disconnect the shifter linkage under the truck to be able to lift the entire shift lever assembly up/out of the truck. There are YouTube videos out there illustrating the process.

Recently changed the bushings on my 02 Tacoma Automatic Shifter while taking pictures a spring popped out and a pin fell out. I do not know where these came from. But now the shifter does not lock in between R and N and between N and D. Also shifter gets locked when placed in park I have to push down on the button next to the shifter to get it unlocked. Has anyone ever run into this problem before? Any suggestions will help. Thanks.

there is an electronic lock, the mechanism is on the right side of the shifter. that's probably where that spring came from.
