    I just bought a 2018 SR5, 4WD, V6, 7k miles.

I visited a shop in Raleigh/Triangle area today. They recommended 1” rear, 3” front leveling kit by Pro Comp. I want to run 33” tires so they suggested a 1.25” wheel spacer. For tires, they recommended 285/70/17 Toyo ATs. They suggested not doing an add-a-leaf kit since the backend is so light.

    1/3 lift kit: $280
    Rear block kits: $212
    Tires: $780
    Wheel Spacers: $200
    Alignment: $141
    Labor: $600
    Total: $2414 after tax

What I’ll use it for: working on my land which isn’t too rough, carrying stuff, and looking pretty. No rock crawling.

    Questions:

What do you guys think about this type of lift? I had a 2000 4Runner that I lifted with adjustable coil overs and new shocks back in the day. I want something that’s comfortable to drive everyday and durable.

Also, with a 1/3, do you guys think the truck will look unbalanced with the front too high? I tend to like the ‘raked’ look but the guy at the shop didn’t recommend doing more than 1” on the rears.

Finally, any insight on the prices they’re quoting or the amount of labor involved?

    A few.
U do a 3/1 lift ur likely to end up nose high. Why not consider doing the work urself? Plenty of how to videos on youtube. A floor jack a couple jack stands a basic wrenches and sockets are all thats needed. Even if u have to purchase a couple tools it will cheaper than paying labor to install

You will be nose high with that lift. I recommend 2” front and 1.5” rear. Research is great. Good luck

You will be nose high if you actually get 3" in the front, but not by much, it won't be instantly noticeable unless you have OCD about it.
    - If they are selling a 3/1 lift kit, that means 3" in front and 1" in back, I see you listed the blocks separately which means they are adding another set of blocks? the 3/1 kit is supposed to include that. Double check.
    - With that size tire, you have a couple of problems, if you dont lift you will rub on the wheel wells/cab mount. If you lift 3" you might rub on the UCAs so then you put spacers and you're back to rubbing on your wheel wells. It's not an exact science, depends a lot on exactly how much lift you actually get, the tire width ("285" is supposed to be the width but it varies) and how wide the spacers you get are.
    - We get alignments done for $75 all day every day... $141 is high, and I'm in San Diego, nothing is cheap here.
-Prices for Tires and Labor seem reasonable for all those parts installed.

If you use the truck like a truck and load it up it will be nose high for sure.

Why are they charging you for a rear block kit and also for a 3/1 kit?
Alignment is about double the price.
I'd do the lift yourself in a garage and get a higher quality lift if you are comfortable spending that money already.

Also, a set of Bilstein 5100s would be about what they are charging you for blocks so you may want to consider that instead.

Great advice. I started off with a spacer lift. Learned from members on here , picked a better set up in the long run. Imo for me Great step up 5100’s , 6112 or eibach can’t go wrong.
    Good luck OP

I’m really worried about being nose high. I like the aggressive raked look. Nothing worse imho than trucks with a saggy rear.

As far as doing the work myself, I could try, but I’d be buying all of the tools. I don’t have anything. I also don’t want to screw up.

With a 2/1.5, can you clear 285/70/17 (32.8”) tires or do they rub really bad. I don’t want to do any cutting.

UCAs are a concern to me now especially since the shop didn’t mention them. If I did a 2” front, would I be able to clear the tires?

It’s going to rub. 265/75/16 won’t rub. To run a 285 at that lift height you will most likely need cmc and control arms to get more caster to push tire forward. Lots of threads on this topic. I personally am running 265/75/16 on 2” front and rear is 1.5” aal. Imo still looks good but others will disagree

Also I’m planning on spc control arms just to get better handling my 2cents

So you don't really 'need' a lift, you just want one.

Certainly that's ok, but obviously you don't want to just make it a photo queen either.

Find another shop, get more estimates.

This one is recommending high margin low to modest quality stuff.

100%. I like the look. And given the fact that I wont be doing any offroading other than driving on my own property (~10 acres in central NC, no mountains or crazy terrain), I want something that doesnt destroy ride quality on roads. I definitely don't need long travel.

No, its not easy to get those tires to clear, If you do just a 2" lift in front and change your tires to just a little bit taller (265/75/16) youll end up with a good looking truck that performs well and doesnt break the bank or cause problems.
Get a set of front bilstein 5100s, 265/75/16 tires and just level off your truck. it will cost you about 1200 depending on the tires you get.

    A few.
It can come down to the wheel you choose to go with and the offset of the wheel. Trd Pro wheels in both the tacoma version and the 4runner version seem to have the least chance of rubbing with the 285's. Stock wheels will usually need wheel spacers to allows 285's but using more than a 3/4" spacer could cause some rubbing from what Ive seen.
