Amplifying the speakers is always beneficial because the aftermarket speakers will handle it.
I replaced all mine with Infinity the weekend after I got my Taco. It took awhile for them to break in but the quality improved greatly just by replacing the paper OEM ones. amplification will be my next step.
One thing I think people are not doing along with upgrading the speakers is acoustically insulating the plastic door panels as well as insulating the doors.

@TacoJon2020 found this whilst browsing Amazon... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B087Z1794K/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza

I spoke to tacoma toones and the do have the harness for $75.... tps://*********.com/shop/toyota-tacoma-audio-products/double-cab-audio-products/plug-play-wire-harnesses/tacoma-plug-play-amp-harness-installation-kit/

I'm going to ask in the harness thread if this is what we need... fingers crossed

EDIT: those that know confirmed the Amazon link above will not work for the kicker. So Tacoma tuunes is the only way right now...

Hey buddy, should I get the amp wiring kit from crutchfields? or can you draw power from the HU like pre 2019's seem to do?

Wiring is super easy with that camry kit I purchased, are you wanting to add a sub?

    I didn't add a sub.

This is what I did, I cut the camry kit in two. I left the more length on the side that attaches to the terminal that goes to the speakers vs the other side that plugs into the HU.

So you take the HU portion you just cut off and you solder all 8 wires to one of the harnesses that comes with the key. Its the one without the power and ground. Soldering is easy to figure out because the wires on both harnesses are the same colors 4 different colors and there are lines on one of the pairs of the same color to make the pairs easy to see which to wire together.

Do the same on the other two harnesses you have left now, connection that goes to speakers from the camry kit gets wired together to the harness that wires to the kicker harness that has the power wires on it too. Same setup with 8 wires with 4 colors to choose from type deal where pairs of colors are easy to see the difference with one have a different color line. Red wires goes to your power, black wires go to your ground.

Blue wire isn't wired up, at least I don't know how to wire it up and I wasn't able to find someone on here to tell where I could use that wire. You can turn this option off with the flip switches on the key. That's something else you want to look at here. I think I talked to dustinmeeks in one thread on here about it.

Sub is added in with the really long wires that come with the camry kit. I cut those off because I have no plans to add a sub.

You are just basically splicing into the middle of the camry harness.

It will make more sense once I get everything in front of me...

Stuff is ordered and will be with me next week!

Installation is quite easy. Just be careful when removing the triangles at the front of the door. The white clips can fall inward if you are note careful removing them with needle nose pliers. Any speaker replacement from the crappy paper OEM speakers will be an improvement.

I thought the fronts were a nice upgrade on my non premium TRD OR, the backs weren't noticeable, the kicker definitely improved it a lot, especially the back speakers.

Do you know what HU you had? My 2020 OR has the base 8” of the 4 options available in the Tacoma. I would have really thought it would have had at least the ‘audio plus’ upgraded HU, but nope.

It all depends on the HU, do u still have the window sticker? It’ll say...’audio’...’audio plus’...’premium’...’premium jbl’ depending on which HU u have...

probably the audio plus then because I just have the base TRD OR with 8” and only LED headlights as an option.

My sticker says I have “etune audio plus with 6.1” touch screen”

Think i’ll have enough power for the kicker door speakers?

My 2020 Trd OR with led and tech package only had ‘audio’ HU lowest of the low. Gonna be fixed soon with the kicker key 200 amp :)

Hmm well now im leaning toward buying an amp to instead of returninf these speakers.

Any suggestions on a decent budget amp? Not looking to spend too much more on the audio system
