I'd have another look into the engine fan operation. The fan is mounted to a thermostatic clutch, Under normal operating temps the fan will freewheel, it's always spinning but not to its full potential. When things get hot, the clutch engages which runs the fan at a higher rate, you will hear it whirring away. This is meant to happen well before the engine is near overheating.

Well, when it’s over heating I let the engine run at idle to cool down also. The fan is still spinning at this point. So, I can’t really touch it unless my wife want to say good bye to her favorite fingers.
I went to the dealership this morning and that’s what they are thinking. There might be a bunch of mud or whatever in between the radiator and the condenser because when I attempted to clean the radiator... really I only cleaned the condenser because it’s in front of the radiator.
Yeah, if they can’t figure it out. I will have them just flush the radiator fluid also even though it’s early to do it. Just to try something that might fix it. They said the radiator system is a tight enclosed system. So, nothing from outside and come inside unless you have a leak. But there is no leak on the radiator system so far.

Yeah, I see the fan running the whole time. The only time I see not spinning is when the engine is off. The mechanic was saying he could stop the fan clutch after trying to get the truck hot... but they are not able to make the truck overheat like what it’s been happening to me, so far. I told them I will take the mechanic off roading with me to duplicate it. Haha. There is a off road park only 40 minutes away.

If you didn't clean that, then this might be it.

The fan will always spin... whether or not it's locked up tight enough to move lots of air will be the question. If it's not hot, the clutch will slip a lot. Fan will spin, but not move much air.

if it was mine, I'd be trying to rinse the radiator from the fan and engine side TOWARDS the front of the truck, not from the front of the truck towards the engine.

Thats because the recilculate air button is off, once you turn it on you wont feel any air coming from the vents when everything is off.

A quick solution to overheating on the trail is pop it in N and rev the engine to 2,500ish rpm and hold it there until temps drop. It’ll take a minute or so. That’ll get the fan spinning and move a lot of air. I have to do it every once in awhile in the summer when the temps start creeping up.

An ultra gauge is a better way to monitor it too. It’ll show you an actual temp vs the dummy gauge on the dash. I have mine set to emit an audible alarm if I hit 220° so I can keep a close eye on it.

Yep, it is. Dealership said there is hella mud on the bottom back and between the two. They are going to pull the radiator out and steam clean it.
I probably should of pulled the shroud off and cleaned it the back side of the radiator. Will do next if I have the same issue again.

I need to get that type of gauge. Where is the best place to buy one?

Because mud and other contaminants, like bugs, come in from the front of the truck, you should clean from the back side. Granted, it is difficult when there are coils placed in front of others. Glad you figured it out and are getting it resolved. You happen to have a picture of the caked on mud? Curious how much it took to start causing you problems. And I'm sure others would like to see it as well.

Every time you overheated your engine , you also overheated your transmission .
Not sure of your mileage , but I would suggest a transmission service to replenish that overheated transmission fluid as well

Off topic, but, I had the same experience with a dealership. I usually do my own work always but I was in for a frame replacement and I told the dealer my 4x4 actuator would engage sometimes or it would trying and blink and beep etc. They said since I dont put it in 4x4 much (not true they assumed since we are in the south I never do) it just gets stuck and I need to turn it on go under and tap it with a hammer or screwdriver dafaq literally that was their solution. I was a little shocked I was like are y'all even licensed to work on cars :rofl:anyways I found a bunch of other people on here had this issue too and they pulled it out and soldered the connections. I came home pulled the actuator and when I popped it open it was packed with sand. I cleaned it out soldered the connections and greased it back up and sealed it properly and it engages faster than ever. Sorry for hijacking the thread but the dealers solution for your stuff just pisses me off like mine did. Thanks for letting me share.
