So I am new on here, but not new to Tacomas at all. I have only owned first gen models up until a few weeks ago. My question, what is the best tire size that you are running with 3 inches of lift? I drive my trucks, its not a pavement princess so im thinking 16s for good air pressure drops and better bounce off the rocks. I've never had all these rubbing issues with the older trucks, I lifted, geared and slapped 35s on every one. Here, it seems almost everyone will rub off road with 285s. So my calculations are pointing me to a 265 75 16. Which is almost identical to my wife's stock tires on her trd pro 4runner...so I was hoping to go a little bigger. Your suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Typically you can run a 295/75/16 but you will need to do a cab mount chop and beat the pinch weld to death ten seal it with rtv to get full articulation without rubbing.
Most can run a 285 with minor trimming
Or you can go with a 255/85/16 with no rubbing (i have no experience with this size).

I was looking at the 255, does it look awkward skinny in person?

If you really plan on driving your truck off road, I'd go with the additional beef of a 265 minimum, and probably a 285. Only issue is the variety of answers you'll get re trimming. For example, with 3" of lift, and adjustable SPC UCAs, I only needed minor trimming. Other have done full CMC. Others claim no trimming. So the 265 is a safer bet.

285/70/17 on SCS Ray 10 no rubbing no trimming for me. Just don’t run a front mud flap.

Looking st the numbers 265 to 285 is about an inch or so difference in width, not sure thats worth the possibility of rubbing. Back when i started wheeling all you saw was 35x12 37x 14 and then random skinny tire trucks that would keep up no problem. Also, my truck did not ship with any mud flaps at all, guess I dont need to worry about that . Thanks for all the replies gentlemen
