Honestly this. I live in a horsey community and the people always wait till WAY to late which creates havoc and traffic. Just get it over with, return the trailer if someone needs it and live stress free.

I personally pertain to the iron variety of horses, They don't consume fuel when not being used, cleaner, lighter, faster, easier maintenance, can be stored with others and only do what you tell them. :D

Yes, as the OP posted later, they’re heavy.

I wish our locations were not so different. If we were closer, I would ask my cousin to come get them with his dualie. He has the Angus variety of the 4-legged creature.

Each animal can easily weigh more than 1800 lbs, many around 2000 lbs.

Everything’s going good so far. Most horses are loaded and the fire isn’t too close. More worried about when the wind changes direction at night, but we should be out of here way before then. Got most of the horses out of here and looks like I’ll maybe tow an empty trailer if anything at all.

Did it once with a dual horse trailer with one horse in it. Was awkward as hell for sure but thankful it wasn’t far (less than 10mi country roads)

All horses (and Kevin the miniature donkey) ~ 50 in total have been safely relocated. Ended up not having tow anybody but I did help with a bunch of the saddles and other accessories. Thank you everybody for your help, stay safe!

I'm right up the road from you. Hopefully things calm down, but the winds today we're brutal. That smoke is getting thick! Good to hear you got your animals out ok!

Heck yea!! Glad you got everything safe. I would just say do whatever it takes with whatever you have, hell if I only had a golf cart to move things that’s what I would try. Only thing that matters in the end is that everything works out.

go slow, watch carefully, don't use overdrive. It's a short trip and you have a NEED to get it done.

Yea the barn burned down in 2007 and this fire is scarily identical to that one so who knows what’s gonna happen. A lot of houses in danger so hopefully they can get it contained

The OP knows this, as well as many posters, for the people that have never hauled livestock.
It's not just the weight, the load moves and shifts in the trailer. Towing stock is quite different than a static load.

Well it happened again, another fire in the same area. This time it was a lot more sudden and chaotic (~70 mph winds). The big trailer at the barn is in Oklahoma for a show so we were stuck with a few 2-3 horse trailers and 50 horses (plus Kevin of course). We were there from 12:30am-5am hauling horses to 3 different ranches that had open spots. It’s a big pain trying to find space since there’s a bunch of other ranches that are also evacuating and hauling to the same places as us. We got all the horses and most of the tack out before we were forced to leave by the cops. One person that was there hauling horses had his house burned down (he was actually not upset about it because that’s a lot of insurance money to buy new shit with). We had found a horse running on the road that belonged to a different ranch that ran out of room and time for just him but thankfully we were able to snag him. I clearly wasn’t too focused on taking pictures but I got this on my way out. Not a good representation of the anarchy but it’s better than nothing. Keep in mind that normally it is pitch black out at the time this was taken but the fire makes it look like dawn.EFA86DC1-9195-4FFD-8B61-D81BE4791844.jpg

Glad you were able to get them all out safely. Thank you for also getting the loose horse and getting it to safety. Please stay safe.
