Made My Own Wooden Cap, Suggestions On Mods to It?

After shopping a lot of caps, I decided to just build my own for a little over $100. It was a fun project and the advantage with wood is that I can add/mod easily by just attaching "stuff".

Now, Im looking for creative suggestions on what to add to the cap. I plan on driving cross country and living out of it while I see America. Id be solo with a dog.

Insulation, and maybe a vent too.

 

I’ve always wanted to do that, but I was planing on going the cedar strip route. I can’t tell from the pics, but make sure your structural fasteners are bolts, screws have a tendency to come loose with vibrations and constant wracking forces on the road.
Inserting foam cut to fit in the interior cavities would be a nice touch if you plan on sleeping in it. Looks good!

Is the front covered in plexiglass- between the cab and cap? If not, you're going to get a whole lot of water in there if you drive through the rain - and debris any other time.

 

These are kinda what I’d like to do, basically an upside-down boat.

 

Still gotta do that definitely. I may either hard secure it or put it on hinges.

 

Following to see what you do for the front and back. Did you use marine paint or normal?

 

How much you reckon it weighs? More than a fiberglass, about the same? Less?

 

I used black exterior paint as that's what I had on hand, three-four coats currently.

 

That's a good question and I havent tried to remove it yet (been building it on the truck bed) but I havent noticed a sag in my suspension!
