MTS in Rock mode is like A-Trac on 2nd gen TRD OR - simulated front locker. MTS in Mud & Sand mode is a simulated LSD - allows plenty of tire spin. The trails in our region tend to be alternating rocks and mud holes, and I flick the dial between Rock and Mud & Sand as needed and the system responds dynamically. I usually use MTS in conjunction with the rear locker.

Videos on Youtube show crawl control can let the truck dig itself out after you're stuck, though it can take 2-3 minutes. It'll be faster to use traction boards or a winch if you got them.

The pins just prevent the pads from falling out. They don't take any braking loads. In a crunch you can use a large cotter pin to retain the pads. Many racing calipers do just that to make pad changes quicker at the track:

I'll have to take a look.

Never looked close enough and my mechanic hasn't mentioned anything before so who knows.

Do ours use one like that? I'll have to take a peek.

'Simulated' locker or LSD is just like A-Trac, you can just hear your breaks disappearing. :censored:

The system just uses your brakes to simulate actual goodness at the expense of more brake jobs.

Combine putting your tires in mud (brakes fully in mud) and then just riding the brakes like crazy, smushing all that mud in between the brake pad and rotor. It acts like sand paper and just eats the pads and rotor away.

I am going to have to do my front brakes again, just because of dirt and mud and I rarely use my brakes and NEVER use A-craptrac

I never had issues with brake pad wear :notsure: I usually have A-Trac / MTS on right after I shift into 4low...

The two Amazon links I posted are the exact pins our trucks use. If you aren't in a hurry, Rock Auto has them for half that price before shipping.

Limited use every now and then, might not be that bad.

I go out almost every weekend and play. Going on 2nd front brake job in less than 70K km. Just more time dunked in mud, water and sand and using the brakes. Trust me its a thing.

Different usage mode for sure. Mine's a daily driver, which means I have to flush out the salt and lube the calipers every two years (about 36,000 km) anyway.

Seems like there are some strange differences between the 2021 auto trans TRD OR trim level and the manual trans TRD OR. Crawl Control and MTS of course but not sure why thing like the 360 cameras would be available on the auto and not the manual. Kinda want the front camera at least.

Toyota has a TRD OR and a TRD OR Premium pkg. The 360 camera ("multi terrain view") is only in the TRD OR Premium pkg, which is available in double cab only. Of course there's no MT double cab in 2021. If you pick access cab, the 360 camera isn't available regardless of MT or AT, same with blind spot monitoring, moonroof, and power sliding window.

Those cameras are very bad anyways, any aftermarket unit would be much better.

yeah unfortunately the picture quality is not great... the stock cameras Honda’s come with are far better.

Does anyone here know if anyone is offering the OV Tune via vF Tuner in Ontario yet? I want it but I don’t want it enough to pay $900 for it.

Yep. Interesting how they don’t really even note in their build page that the only manual option available is the OR and it’s not obvious it’s an OR even when you drill down into the features.
