    Hello

the truck has 273k miles and lifted on king coils running 285/75/17.

when the truck is on Drive and you hard tap the gas pedal the auto disengages and goes to neutral.

If it’s on 2 or L and you do that it stays in gear.

The shift lever is what seems kind of loose and hard to put into drive.

what do you guys think I’m looking at? Tried to explain it to my best

    thanks

    shifting while driving is fine.
It’s just when hard tapping the gas off the line that it does this.

Does the actual Gear Shift Lever go into Neutral?
Or Dose it stay in D?

Does the dash light indicator say N or D when this happens?

1st gens don't have a dash indication of what gear it is in.

… but your other questions apply and I want to know the answers to those.

Sounds like the transmission is falling out of third gear judging by how the OP is explaining things .
Check the fluid with the engine running . is the fluid level good ?

Put the transmission in park and remove the key . Block the wheels . Go under truck and disconnect park linkage by removing the nutt on the transmission lever .
Grab the transmission lever and move it into the park position . Try pushing the truck by hand . you should hear it click when the transmission grabs park . Tighten the nutt back on the lever .
Now your transmission and your gear shift lever are synchronized . Did that help ?

Two things I can think of.

The linkage that connects the gear selector to the trans

    Or

The shifter bushings are wrecked. I'm leaning towards the first.

When I put a Body Lift on my 1st Gen.
I had to do just as @gearcruncher said above to adjust the shift rod.

The leaver goes into neutrals so I don’t think it’s the transmission, just the bushing after doing some research.

I’m going to order the shifter bushings.
    Think that’s it
