Mice in my truck!! What the ...

So this morning I open my truck and the first thing I see is a plastic snack package from my daughter, chewed up in tiny bits n shreds all over my seat. Clearly something ate through the entire package and gnawed it up. On my passenger seat was rice size black poops! It’s a mouse. Then I see that it chewed through my leather shift boot on the console. I did park in a field with long grass last night for a bit. So my question is: how did the little hellyun get in and how do I get it out!

 

Check the cabin filter as a very likely point of entry.
Bait it / them with peanut butter traps and be done with it.

 

Well that sucks. But better than getting wiring harness all chewed up

REMOVE ALL FOOD AND GARBAGE.

Op. Had one in my roof liner on my '13 Tacoma for about a week. See above for how I got it out. Highly recommend NOT eating in there if you can help it. But I also have kids and it can be hard to enforce.

Had a little truck back in college that ate one in the AC fan. Smell never goes away.

 

Don't use a sticky trap.

The creature could flop around and get the trap flipped over.......now you got all the sticky crap in carpet/upholstery with the dead beast.

 

Pick up poop with a sticky lint roller or something similar. Disinfect and let sit before vacuuming. Vacuuming can make hantavirus airborne. Wear gloves and wash hands well. I'd wear a n95 when cleaning too.

Usually it is more than one mouse. Don't use glue traps. They can injure themselves to get out, then they crawl off to die in your rig. Use the kind they crawl in and can't get out of.

 

I took your good advice and opened up the cabin filter. There I found a little bit of carpet insulation from someone attempting a nest along with a dozen more mouse poops in the filter fins. I’ve set up plastic explosives and dynamite along with pepper spray and a flame thrower...... I’ll report back.

 

I stand corrected. Got lucky on my end with no mess though.

 

At least you don’t have cats in your truck.

A lot of the plastics used in cars such as wire insulation is made using soy these days. I had a similar situation where something ate a good part of the battery cover in my Jeep. Peppermint Oil will keep them away.

 

If I had CATS in my truck, I wouldn’t have mice in the first place!

Where do you people live that get mice in your trucks all the time? In all my years of owning cars and trucks, not once have I ever got mice in my vehicles, not even in farms I’ve lived in, rural wooded areas etc., here in NC. In the house yes, vehicles never.

 

Not a 3rd gen, but the idea and methods are close enough that you can modify and use.

not to mention its just cruel. Use a bucket trap or something humane and release it back into the field.

Get some of this spray and spray it in the engine compartment and anywhere else on the truck to deter rodents.
