Don't need a ram version since I use those only on the motorcycles. Still a bit hesitant at 40$ but I wouldn't have to design, test print etc. How sturdy are these held in when wheeling? Black is ok but if you have other spools currently I wouldn't mind a different color.

@BSK Although I haven't tested this specific design offroad, I have a similar design to hold my cellphone which I've used on many offroading trips and haven't had any issues.

The mount is very sturdy and with the a tight tolerance, between the UV-5R and mount and the mount to the A/C Vent, there is no rattling of either the radio or the mount. If you aren't satisfied with the mount, I would gladly offer a refund. I could purchase a different filament color if you would like a different color. I only have black filament as of now. Thanks!

Only time the baofeng comes out is for wheeling trips so it would have to be able to stay mounted.

Have you thought about a design that allows the microphone to be placed onto the left side and therefore a bit closer to the driver as well as a design that is slightly angled 30-45degrees towards the driver?

I actually have considered that design but the problem is it interferes with the turn signal lever.

how low would it hang if the mic holder is below? definitely dig the design so far but the radio knob being covered would get me. What does it look like top down? Have you shipped any into any member in the DC area?

@BSK It does cover the radio knob but is still accessible. I can work on a design to mount it below the radio and still have access to the radio buttons. So far only shipped to California and NJ.

One of the DC guys posted it but I really liked the idea. Some revisions or some slight design changes and you have a winner for sure. The battery eliminator option would be a neat cut out also.

Definitely more space for radio knob access than I expected.

Can't remember the last time I touched that radio knob, always use the controls on the steering wheel.

@STrooper I actually did, it's what I originally started out with and what led me to the UV-5R mount. I used to custom design them for each buyer but that took a lot of design time since there are so many cellphone and covers variations. If there is interest in them I wouldn't mind making a few more.

Nice figured it wouldn’t be too hard. I believe it’s the same size as the battery. Does this fit oversized batteries? The newer units have some thicker batteries.

@nudavinci64 The standard battery is actually larger than the extended battery but I'm also not sure if they changed designs recently. I've have different designs for the standard and extended batteries.

definitely will get one ordered once you have some slight revisions or someone confirms that this thing can take some beating while wheeling. Usually have the handheld unit in the cup holder and dont use my mic dongle but dig the design. Good stuff!
