    UCON by far.
Unless doing a full standalone like Haltech. The Unichip harness can be used as a sacrificial jumper plug n play harness for the Haltech. If a direct plug n play harness isn’t available for your ECU.

I have an unused UCON complete with gears and everything if you’re interested in taking it off my hands.

I will be going stand-alone with my project.

I have a used UCON for sale as well. I'm keeping the gears and thermostat but both are readily available elsewhere now (like URD).

Wanted to throw in my 2 cents regarding my experience with tunes and the sc on a 07 tacoma. I have been running the sc for about 2.5 years and I have used a combination of two BD tunes one that came with the sc unit and one downloaded for a 2.8" pully. Both were decent and delivered decent AFR throughout the range. This was read from my wideband and one session on a dyno. The numbers were in the safe range for me and I thought the performance was fine. The 2.8 tune ran a little lean at wot with upgraded pump but nothing too crazy. I was going to return to the original tune and wanted to change my shift points and in and around the same time my truck was broken into and they took the bullydog unit ( I had it mounted permanently ). This meant buying a new bd unit, using the trd flash, or trying something else. From reading a lot on this site I decided to go with the UCON. I liked the idea of the timing advance with the cam gears and the self-tuning features. I was a little hesitant to proceed after reading a few stories about flashed ecus not playing nice with the UCON but decided to give it a try.
Toughest part of the install was getting the cam bolts out for sure (and stripping a few bolts on the sc case) but other than that it was pretty straight forward. It seems to have matched up to the flashed ecu without issue. I have had the unit installed for about 500kms.
Really smooths out the power delivery and have noticed an increase in mid range power. Truck runs richer at mid range and WOT (mid 11s). Time will tell the whole story but for now I am very pleased with the UCON. One last thanks to URD and Gadget. I had a few questions during the install and whether it was luck or not they got back to me right away or I could get them on the phone immediately. I paid full price for the unit and in no way did they ask me to post this.

Has anyone here tried the launch mode that's built into the UCon? With a manual transmission? What I'm really hoping is it'll modulate the throttle for an efficient "clutch grab".

I'm glad to read this good review. I too am happy with the UCon for much the same reasons you are, and Scott at iTronix has been fairly good at helping with diagnostics as well. It takes a little bit of time for the unit to get used to all my mods, but after two hundred miles or so it seems to work things out.

Boost, armor, lights, big tires, no savings.
I remember launch control coming up years ago, and Gadget said there is plans to do much more with the UCON. But was not aware of any progress in that area. Has anyone used launch control or heard of other new features?

Just got off the phone with Gadget the other day regarding ucon features. Still a lot he wants to do with it, just needs to find the time. I could imagine since it’s literally controlling our trucks with the potential to blow the engine up if a mistake was made, that the time to test and evaluate would be very strenuous/stressful. I’m just happy with how well it’s been working for the most part on my truck. Had one guardian event on a rainy day after going from 10’000 to 100’ in elevation, turned truck off for 5 minutes, then went out for a test drive (where I saw the sawtooth wavelike response when I was WOT).

Hey guys.. Thought this would be a good place to ask if anyone has encountered a similar issue. So I installed the magnuson supercharger about a year and 3 months ago with the BD tune. One night I had the BD tech support help me install their 2.8 tune and the motor blew that night. I’m guessing a cracked piston/ cylinder wall or blow head gasket.

anyways, I decided to just replace the motor and go with the Ucon. I swapped the engine and drove the truck stock for a few weeks then installed the supercharger once I knew everything was good. With ucon installed my issue is a lean spike under medium acceleration, maybe around 50-60% throttle. It initially adds fuel then spikes to anywhere from 13:1 - 14:7 and sometimes guardian kicks in. This has sometimes happened with boost at 2-4 psi. I’ve had stage 1, 2 and 3 tunes and worked with Scott for a year now and still can’t get it figured out. I’ve replaced the ECM, all 4 o2 sensors, MAF sensor. It’s done it with stock exhaust and with my current URD headers and spec-u exhaust. It does it with and without boost referencing the FPR. It’s done it with all my pulley mods (2.8, 2.7 and 2.5). Its done it with 61lb injectors and 7th injector and without. It’s been very frustrating so I’ve downgraded my setup until I can get it figured out. If anyone has any tips or ideas that might be helpful I’d really appreciate it.

    Current setup is:
    Ucon
    2.7 pulley
    255 walbro
    Trd injectors
    URD headers and exhaust
    AFE intake

Just to elaborate, I first replaced my stock fuel pump in 2010 with an Aeromotive unit. Over time, in addition to filling up at several questionable fuel pumps and drums south of the border, the clamp that was supplied with the fuel pump kit was slightly rubbing on the pump. The coating wore off and I found bits of the coating, the body, and some dirt accumulation blocking my fuel pump. I had similar fuel spikes and I think that contributed to the demise of my first engine....Also lost the inter cooler pump while this all was happening bad timing of events.

I installed the walbro 255 at the same time as the Ucon at had these issues right away.. during the troubleshooting I dropped the tank again to double check the hoses and found one coming loose. After I fixed that the lean spike was still there. I also installed a fuel pressure gauge tapped into the fuel rail and I never have any fuel pressure fluctuations at all. I guess I could change the in-line filter, but I don’t think it will help.

Sounds like the ucon itself could be bad. I had a bad one straight out of the box and it was a nightmare to track down, sounds a lot like what youre going thru less the blown motor. Anyways, i would reach out to Scott and request that they change out the “boards” inside your Ucon. That might fix the problem
