I'm still not onboard with the whole EV thing anyways. Not in its current state. Until Hydrogen becomes a thing, it's no better than oil is IMO.

agreed. Needs a lot of investment in infrastructure and really just technology improvement for harvesting.

But yeah, people are kidding themselves if they think EV's are more "environmentally sound" given the mining that's needed and production to make the batteries and you still have to make electricity and we still are really not up to "clean" standards there either. Getting there though on that front.

And they do? i was still under the impression that batteries would not last the life of the vehicle itself and would still need replaced in much to short of intervals IMO to be again..sustainable or affordable for the common person.

I could commute in an EV, we have chargers here at Tippet Rise even. ha. But will likely never afford it for a long time. Plus as you said, with temperature control that's a bit of an issue for me or lots of people really in my area. So yeah, very niche.

And even Tesla's don't last long. I think they need replaced every 8-10 years or something? And it goes like 8500 bucks. That's fuckin nuts.


Cost for sure. And I just don't trust it'll get me home in the absolute shit I have to drive in sometimes, which is of course extreme cold temps in blizzards and shit. Without a heated garage I just don't see that going well.

 

I guess we have the advantage here of hydroelectric sources. While not a 100%, it is certainly more than most.

And you are definitely not typical. Not sure that we are here either. But what I do know is there are a significant number of EVs here. Maybe its because it is a major metro area with significant infrastructure, temperate conditions and relatively inexpensive power costs.

I don't see EV's making it in the hands of blue collar rural area people for a long time. Too much is dependent on your vehicle and the range it has and other things that I just don't see EV's taking over....yet.

and nah my truck get closer to 20-22. Single cab remember. I do maybe a tank every 8-9 days now which is only a 16.5 gal tank not a 18.5. So cost's aren't as high as say Igor would be...which would be accurate with your numbers. It's about 50 miles round trip.

Bolt wouldn't do it for me due to snow as well. The only EV on the market right now that I know I could probably get by with year round is the Tesla...Y? or X? idk whatever the SUV one is. And no way in hell I could afford that shit haha but the awd and some ground clearance is important.


It's certainly not impossible to see happening for me. But I certainly don't think leasing a Tesla or one of the other new 4x4 trucks will ever make sense financially, leasing in general doesn't seem like a good idea out here with the risk of totally it in a ditch or a deer or elk or whatever else decides to run out in front of me hahaha plus insurance on a lease(as you found) is never cheap. And purchasing...well..I can't see myself be able to or willing to buy something brand new given the price tag vehicles ask for these days.

 

Thoughts on the DD SSC2 Pro in flood pattern as a ditch light? @Blackdawg you have a set of those as driving lights correct?

 

I have the fogs. I'm going to grab another pair though for ditch lights but am going to go with the Combo pattern.

I want the nice flood but also some distance as the main use case for me is deer spotting.

Over all though, crazy nice lights. Wasn't super stoked about the fit n finish of the mounting hardware..but other than that. Really nice and bright lights for their size.

 

Nice, thanks. I want a short distance pure ditch/cornering light, I think the floods will do the trick. They're on sale right now, figured I'd spring for some.

ha i learned to drive stick on a Rabbit haha convertible when i was like 10 or something.

And yeah that's a fair way to look at it. Idk. I'm pretty happy with my $4500 commuter haha granted I've poured some money into to fix it and keep it going but still love driving it. Going to do the clutch here soon as well finally.

Yeah go for it haha I think it'll be handy. Especially cause my normal binkers are usually covered in dirt and due to the placement can't be seen by some anyways. So hoping it'll help.
