Two part question - sorry I couldn’t find what I was looking for searching
    1) while towing, what are the four items you are monitoring? Do you monitor more than 4, how?
    2) when NOT towing, what are the four items you are monitoring? Do you monitor more than 4, how?

just purchased the SG2 and P3. 2018 Sport.

TF1,TF2, coolant temp and current gear. I have a couple of others set up and can switch to those if needed. You can only monitor 4 at a time but they are easily switched by pressing the button next to the gauge you want to change. I’ve also monitored battery voltage, engine torque and horsepower.

I leave it displayed regardless of whether or not I’m towing.

One thing that I notice with people that are actively towing is that their mirrors are completely blocked by the much wider towing object.

Get extended mirrors and don't be that jerk riding the left lane at 27 mph on an incline because you have no idea if you can merge back into the slow AF lane and out of my way.

Outside of my mirror rant, if you have an auto trans, monitor the transmission temps.

Also learn how to use "sport" mode along with the ECT button and get used to <12 mpg when towing with a 3rd gen.

TF1, TF2, Engine oil temp and gear.

Last tow was pretty much 195° to 225° trans temperatures depending upon grade.

How are you guys getting Oil temp? <edit: Nevermind plus change MTH to 0001 0001 FFD8 for Celsius>

I had mine set on the 2nd gen to show; TransTemp (only one on 2005), Distance to empty, Coolant Temp, and Daily km/100.

Now in the 3rd Gen I use TF1/TF2, Coolant Temp, current gear, and Daily km/100 while towing.
Just driving around I use TF1, Coolant Temp, Daily km/100, and instant km/100.

Is 225° F a good top end of the temperature range to shoot for? Now that I have my ScanGauge II set up I want to make sure I am monitoring temps correctly. Thanks!

According to @gearcruncher that's too high! Should be low 200s. I think the 3rd gen is set to 195° F and for the majority of my tow it was 195° or slightly less, but I do see it regularly over 200° on TF2.

I edited after posting to clarify. :)

Hopefully @gearcruncher will show and comment, he's the wise one. ;)

Dont know if I am wise or not lol , but be happy you dont own a 2021 Tacoma or Tundra with tow package and " no trans cooler ". Apparently they are good for running 250 degrees through 270 degrees using factory World Standard fluid that was released in 2003 . That puts that scale in the post above out too lunch . The first transmission service with the 2021 trucks is set to 125K under extreme duty ??????
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/missing-transmission-cooler.671079/
That scale in the above post is sourced through Empire lubricants who performed the testing , however , other trans fluid manufacturers who also did testing state very similar outcomes .
Has anyone ever heat tested Toyota WS transmission fluid ?

In the past , I have always tried to keep temps below 200 in an attempt to not cook the additives out of the fresh transmission fluid .

I’ve added the oil temp xgauge and watched it on my commute this afternoon, would it make sense that it stays very close to the trans 1 temp? Not identical but within a few degrees and matches any changes?

    Hey Mike

Are you talking about TF1 and TF2 ?
Both should be close to engine temps . If your transmission is warmed and cooled through the radiator , transmission temps should be very close to engine temps .
Tf1 is transmission fluid returning to the transmission pan after being cooled
Tf2 is the hottest showing torque converter temps before leaving the transmission to be cooled

Nope, TF1 and EOT engine oil temp.
I think I might have my MTH wrong as I’m also converting to Celsius.

    MTH to 0001 0001 FFD8 ;)
^That's the code Joey @ Linear provided to switch F readings to C.

edit; confirmed - switched it back to 0009 0005 FFD8 (F) - it rises and falls in line with the TF1.
