Spent several hours yesterday, and I finally have it up and running properly. Someone noted there was something (code) screwed up in my Mint 19.1 build. They asked if I had inserted a patch. Although I don't remember doing it, I probably tried to upload some code from AMD to get it to recognize my video card. It didn't work.

I used to have to plug one of the HDMI cables into the MOBO port to see anything displayed on just one monitor. I also had to force a shut down, then restart so I could select loading the previous version of Mint in "protected mode."

I asked if upgrading to 20.X would help, and someone commented that it wouldn't hurt, so I created a bootable memory stick with 20.X, then uploaded it to the Linux SSD drive. I selected to erase the previous version before loading the new one. Boom! It now works! Both monitors are supported with my video card! It boots up, and shuts down like "normal." The only thing I haven't been able to do is upload & run a copy of Thunderbird. I've uploaded it, but can't get it to run. Reading through the message boards, it appears the current version isn't supported (yet).

Got to say I'm glad I mentioned it here on this message board. That gave me enough of a nudge to work on the fix again. I can now build a dedicated Linux machine without worrying if it will work.

    Thanks!

Big warning on any monitor with a 32:9 screen. A lot of games are not extending the POV across the screen. Instead, when set to the monitor resolution, a lot of games that render the screen at 21:9 and chop off a good amount of the top and bottom of the screen. In effect, it looks okay but you actually loose FOV over a 21:9 or standard 16:9. I think manufacturers, both Samsung and LG, hoped they'd get more correct FOV support as time went on but these monitors have been out for years now and still common games render with poorer FOV with Super Ultrawide over standard Ultrawide or Widescreen resolutions.

I heard about the 30 series cards, shady stuff. Seems Amazon does similar with price matching. Every time best buy has sales on movies, amazon matches. After enough matching, best buy goes under and amazon no longer needs to match anyone. I've been buying a ton of movies so been watching the sales.

Been buying used ones off ebay, in the bins at FYE, 2nd and Charles, and buying new as well. I'm building up my plex server which runs on a qnap, and now different issue is rearing its ugly head. It's about 75% full and rising rapidly. I figured with 6x12TB drives in RAID6 it would take me awhile to fill, but my credit card is telling me I've been buying too much :bananadead:

Plans are to use a rosewill rsv-l4412 and 12x12TB drives. Nice thing is it uses standard ATX parts so I can build a system in there that just has a ton of drives in with it. Hopefully I can build it with tax refund money (if I actually get a refund)

Kind of funny cause Ive been downsizing my server. Well storage space is slightly higher but actual content on it is lower. Went through and got rid of a bunch of movies and only keeping ones Im actually likely to watch.

Are you going to try to find a mothebroard with 12 SATA ports?
What OS are you planning to use?

    Hey fellas,

I'm thinking of picking up a VR headset. I have the hardware to back it up but I am between the Oculus Rift S or the Quest 2.

I know the Quest 2 is more of a standalone device but they have the Link cable to plug.

The Rift S is meant to be plugged in which is more of what I'm looking for and has better game support.

    Any thoughts?

It's basically the 2080 Super with better RT cores. Clearly aimed at the 6800 cards since it does DLSS 2.0 and, thus, ray tracing better than AMDs offerings at higher prices.
Hey, don't be negative. The scalpers need their sales to buy Christmas gifts.

I bought a 2070 super recently. Looked it up on Ebay and it is selling for 200 more than I paid for it. May see if I can get a 3060ti and sell the 2070 super and walk away with an extra 150 bucks.

Sorry for late reply. No I don't think I've ever seen a mobo with that many SATA ports. I was looking at an x570 with 6-8 ports, and I have an LSI 9300-8i to cover the rest. Still undecided on OS, but was thinking FreeNAS or TrueNAS or whatever they call it nowadays. As long as it will run Plex Media Server and has support for Quadro GPUs with good software RAID options, I'll be open to trying it.

Problem for me is I have so many family and friends using it, most have different tastes. Some want horror, others want romance, and yet others want westerns, etc... so I have some of everything in there.

Off topic, but funny story. I was uploading a bunch of movies I had ripped that my family had given to me. One of them was called The Invader, or The Invasion, or something like that. When I was uploading, I noticed in my recent uploads a cover of some busty asian. The movie was called The 33D Invaders or something similar. I was like "did someone give me a porno to upload?" Looked it up, and sure enough the movie it matched to looked like some sort of soft core movie from Thailand or somewhere. I quickly fixed that matching error. Couldve been some awkward questions if that hadn't gotten fixed...

Gone are the days of motherboards with 12+ SATA ports. I remember some of the boards with 12+. Even had a couple with 20+ lol.

The LSI HBA's are great though! I have the older brother (PCI 2.0 8x) still going. (though the cache drive is direct SATA)

Im still a big proponent of Unraid for media servers. FreeNAS/TrueNAS is great too though. I just like Unraid since its not a "true" raid like most people think. But still offers parity protection. I just like how it operates disk and pool wise in a media server setting (plus you can do dockers so support for pretty much everything). FreeNAS is still awesome though! Ive set up quite a few setups with it. You can get some incredible speeds out of it if you have the right hardware
