I am having issues with registration on a 2020 that I leased from a Toyota dealership in January.

Initially the dealership registered my truck's VIN under someone else's name so I never got plates. After a couple of months trying to figure stuff out I received a temporary operating permit. That expired and I contacted DMV investigation department. Got a new temporary operating permit, which expires next week. Still have not received registration or plates.

Anyone else ever experienced any issues like this?

You need to speak to the title clerk at the dealership you bought it at....not the salesman or manger

Yes this sounds like a battle that should be between the dealership and the dmv. The title person at the dealership probably had more strings to pull than you and can get it resolved much quicker. They should be able to get you something to legally operate the truck and if not I’d be asking them for a loaner vehicle until you can legally drive it.

Since you leased it, odds are it was through TFS. The title clerk can easily be in direct contact with them.

I’d make the dealer handle it.

On a side note, at least in California, always release the liability ONLINE (even if you trade your car in) and not the paper on the tile that you tear off. Also, if you ever buy a used car, even if it’s paid off make sure the “lien holder” is blank or good luck putting it in your name with out a release from the holding company. Ask me how I know...

    Good luck!

Call the leasing company as it’s their vehicle and not yours...just a tenant bro.

The CA DMV is a mess since the COVID blew in to town. We have guys at work with CDL's and Medicals expiring and the DMV is just not getting the job done.
In all likelihood they will continue to give you extensions until your issues are resolved.
