I went with 265/75/16 Toyo Open Country MT's, on complete Icon Stage-3 suspension which gave me about 2 extra inches and leveled. Staying with the 265/75/16's allowed me to get the look I wanted, plus fifth tire spare in the same size and it fit perfectly under the bed...no issues at all. No cutting, a spare that fit under the bed, plus the looks I wanted was a win for me...

SSO hybrid bumper, Warn winch, RCI skid trilogy, RRW sliders, everything in the cheap/free mods thread, and of course the frame recall work.
I just put 886s on my 5100s up front with OME leaf pack in rear. My actual lift upfront was 1.5" with a Warn 12000 pound steel cable winch, SSO hybrid slimline bumper, and RCI aluminum skid trilogy. Front-to-rear is a 1" rake; looks nice. We will see how it runs out over time. Putting on a set of 285/75r16s on Tuesday - so cab mount chop coming soon, too! The 265/75r16s look OK, but why not get the extra 3/4" of lift and fill the wheel wells better? :)

I did the 285/70/17's with the Eibach 2.5 inch lift. the only cutting I had to do was the front bumper tab on each side, just moved the fender liner mount forward into another existing hole and it worked great.
I do not seriously offroad the truck, mostly pavement with an occasional gravel fire road. I did remove the mud flaps, they rubbed slightly.

Why not just get 275/70/17? That’s what I got and love ‘em.

Of course I was asking the same question for a long time but eventually went with 275/70r17 and am very pleased with the result. I have just slightly over 2" lift in the front and back.

Don't get 285s and hope that you're in the lucky 5% that won't need new UCAs, CMC, trimming, etc. If you're going to go with 285s, factor in that you'll need some or all of these things. If you end up being lucky, well, so be it, but don't buy them and hope that you won't.

My 265s looked good but maybe just appeared a hair too small after the modest lift, so I went with 275s. To my eye they look just right and I've had no rubbing whatsoever. I went from C-rated to E-rated heavier tires and couldn't feel the difference at all. Still drives the same, no hit to MPG noted and no acceleration difference that is noticeable.

Sometimes 285s look great but at other times they just look a little too oversized to me.

No rubbing or at least I have never hit the point it may rub and I do go on "difficult" rated trails. I believe mostly due to the SPC adjustable UCA's though.

From all the pics, the 265/75R16 looks great on the lifted short beds but the long beds seem to need more tire IMHO. I agree though that the bigger tire requires more work, both on your part to fit and on the powertrain to spin. Side wall height is almost the same though because the smaller 16" rim. Atleast that's what the TW tire calculator shows: https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc?tires=265-75r16-285-70r17

    2" Eibach lift ,285's
I agree with this statement. The 265's looked small on my longbed after a 2" lift and I went with 285's. I used the knockoff TRD Pro wheels in a 17X8 with a +5 offset. This seems to be in the "magic" range to avoid the cmc and major rubbing. Too much negative offset and you'll hit the cab mount, too much positive offset and you will hit the UCA.

Have you considered 33" 255 cookie cutters? Absolutely no rubbing and looks great with a 2" lift.
