I wouldn’t swap it into a third gen. Makes more sense to buy a first or 2nd gen with less electrical crap to deal with. My $0.02 after I’ve helped with a swap in a new(er) truck

It's difficult, if not impossible these days, to move an old power train in to a newer vehicle, and still abide by emissions standards. If it's off-road use only toy? Sure go for it!

Sell both and buy a Tundra.

I did inline 4 or 6 to V8 and automatic to manual swaps back in the carburetor days, it was a lot of work. We didn't need to worry about computer controls or emission compliance.

What I learned: Like what you have or buy what you want.

Best of luck and keep us informed.

Depending on what the truck is used for, you might have an issue swapping the older engine into a newer car. Emissions and State laws and what not.
    Can it be done? Yes.

Sell the Tacoma and buy a v8 truck.

    Or turbo it.

If you’re super mechanically inclined or have lots of dough. Either way you’ll need lots of time.

Anything could be done, but imo you'd be building another gas hog....just with more torque.

I mean someone already did a diesel swapped tacoma.. doing a gas one should be cake by comparison.
