Got my DI, plugs, and pan done, also the downpipes wrapped today. Went good. Bought these two things today, thread sealant is for the oil supply fittings in lieu of Teflon tape, paint is to follow some self etching primer on the Intercooler piping just to knock down the shine. Anyone have any objections to these? Something better?

I’ve used the VHT wrinkle plus paint on charge pipes, brackets before and they’ve turned out great with much more tolerance for cosmetic imperfections and also more durable than paint, plus no primer needed just a good clean with grease/ wax remover.
I’ll try to dig up some old pics.

was your oil pan tapped with a drain already? or is OV leaving that part for us

Having some trouble making room for the passenger turbo. Looks like if I disconnect the bottom hose on the power steering reservoir and put the ac line on the other side I could get more room. Anyone this far? How’d you get the turbo down past the ac lines?

I was looking at this yesterday. Can you unbolt the p/s reservoir and run it under the a/c lines.

Shouldn't be necessary to disconnect any of that.
The turbo won't drop straight in top down, angle it a bit towards the back and then slide it into place.

once in place the AC doesn't really need to bend over much just needs to bend up some.

Sorry about the blood. Unbolting the washer fluid and power steering reservoirs helped push that ac line over. I believe there are clearance differences on these trucks, I had to bend the wheel well metal out of the way to the left of the turbo in the first picture, it’s still bent out in the picture, will have to bend it back as I had to shove it all the way to the top bolt of my coil over. Then I had to unmount the wastegate bracket from the turbo to make it work. The wastegate is hard touching the front shock frame mount as you can see in the picture. That’s surely going to take a beating while the engine is torquing back and forth. Suggestions?

I would just cut that section out.

Is the manifold fully tightened down?
It shouldn't be touching, will be close but not touching, and shouldn't need to bend the wheel well either.

Check that the manifold is fully tightened to the head not binded/ leaving a gap

When you removed the wastegate and put it back on did you shift it all the way over? there is some allowable movement just in the wastegate itself

Yes they mated well and are torqued to spec. How much room do I safely need there?

from wastegate to frame? it's not much. just enough to clear. It will be quite close, but I haven't had any problems with this on my truck. Using stock motor mounts.
loosen the wastegate bracket (aluminum bracket) slightly, and it should be able to be shiften over.

Still touching. Tried to adjust on both sides of the mount. So my options are to cut the frame for clearance, or replace the motor mounts.

Neither. it should not be touching. loosen the wastegate itself and adjust

I did, it hits. I’m cool with that...again, I think there’s small clearance differences on these trucks. Not sure if it’s between years or just the trucks themselves, look forward to another 2018 install.

I decided to cut though, how much movement should I expect on this motor? 1/4” of clearance, 1/2”? Would like to cut once and be done.

Edit: maybe I could just hole saw it, and tig a scab on the tire side of the mount. I’ll poke at it more tomorrow.

Don't cut the truck! How about lightly shave the spot on the wastegate that touches.

Less than 1/4 inch is what I have and I don't get any engine flex unless boost is really high

I could do that too if you think it’s better. The gasket on the wastegate is far from the edge, I can cut a touch at a time so I don’t build up heat.

And if you spit on those blood stains they will come out the rest of the way. A neat trick someone taught me.

Something to do with the enzymes in your saliva that breaks down the clots.

    Carry on
