I would bet it was improper heat treating or a decent nick got put in the metal at some point and created a stress riser.

Legend has it that if you say his name three times your truck will get an abnormal vibration that may cause cavitation in your limbs, killing you instantly.

Lol you got me....I am internet certified....want me to post a pic of my certifications bro?...you were probably still shitting in a diaper when I got certified.

Where do get off being this dumb on the internet? Why do you come on forums to say such dumb ass bullshit? Thanks to you and others for ruining this post.

In the meantime I am having people continue to message me of having this same problem. broken valve springs....

How many more pages will add to this thread of people spewing their idiot comments?

They said the valve spring was broken. Didnt say why. The dealer wont know why it broke. That answer can only come from Toyota themselves and they aint saying shit. Just selling more trucks with an issue that causes the engine to shut off....sounds like they are doing their customers a real solid right now....

... of the shiny new 2021 TRD PRO that the OP got as an apology from Toyota for the broken #5 spring inconvenience.

Can't wait for my spring to break too so I can upgrade to a PRO as well. :boink:

Between these "the dealer/Toyota gonna make it right by demanding a new truck" and "my rig got crashed and now I'm gonna retire on a tropical island with my fat DV check" threads provide endless hours of entertainment.

Why message you rather than posting here? Genuinely curious. If this is a pervasive problem, I want to know before I buy one, not just hear from one person who cites other people as well. I think I've seen reference to two other similar issues in this entire thread.

So how frequent is this problem?

The broken mechanical thing is a shame for sure, but its the attitude and drama that are oh so interesting.

What is most interesting is that nearly all of those who make these type of complaints sign up for the forum just to do so, then all act the same way when their reception isn’t as expected or what they perceive as deserved. Curious, isn’t it?

You are lucky OP that the valve retainer didn't pop off and drop the valve into the cylinder lunching the piston and cylinder walls. Had that happen on my 79' Ford Bronco with a 400 motor lightly modded. Started missing on the way to Silver Lake, stopped in Grand Rapids at the Meijer store and replaced the plugs, rotor and cap, still was missing so I turned around and headed home, got all the way to Lansing and the valve retainer popped off, the valve dropped, blew a hole thru the piston and water jacket, dumped all the antifreeze into the pan. I loosened the oil drain screw and nothing but antifreeze came out. Put it back on, called for a wrecker and hauled it home. Started all over with a fresh motor, more compression and HP and different cam and intake so it wasn't a complete loss.

I'll add that the reason for the retainer popping off.......broken valve spring. Once it broke, it no longer had enough tension on the retainer to hold it in place. Pop, drop, disaster..............

yup, mechanical failures don’t discriminate based on manufacturer. I get a headache thinking about all the issues we had with the 6.0 and 6.4 power strokes when they were new, shit happens.

General question to anyone reading through this, not specifically to OP. The lack of response is the confirmation I was looking for.
