What are you smoking? Lol. It’s literally the same suspension as 16 and on, ride is no different nor is the height, the camera is worse on the 20+ due to the larger screen and accommodating panoramic view. New car placebo effect, I get it I’ve had them all.

Why did Consumer Reports ding the 18 for brakes? I know about the minor transmission thingie they critiqued as I had Service Bulletin reflashes #58 and 62. But what's so bad about the brakes? I've not experienced anything..........

HEY Taco, Thanks for piping in. So did this turn into a TSB or official recall based on specific VIN numbers for 18's? I never heard anything about this from Toyota, but would certainly want to know if my truck is at risk of failure and what I can do about it / ie: get them updated. My dealership has been very receptive to any concerns I had. I learned about the TSB's on HERE and they did them without questions. So if you got any specifics that I should be looking into with them, please let me know on this thread or PM. THANKS

Haven’t read through this whole thread so sorry if it’s been pointed already but, the 2020 models and on supposedly had the crawl control changed. There’s another thread on it. Supposedly CC disengages on steep hills for some reason and it seems to be by design. That alone is a good reason why I’m happy with my 2019.

Most of the small piddling problems people complain about on these trucks can be addressed with aftermarket fixes. I’ve done most of the ones that really bothered me. About the only reason left for me to want a newer one now is the Apple Car Play feature which really isn’t a big enough deal for to make the jump. Not even close. And as was pointed out, I could fix that one too easily enough if I wanted to.

Pretty happy with my truck now the way it is. Virtually zero reasons in the positive column for getting a newer one, and multiple in the negative against. . .

I’m just pointing out my experience since from what has been posted here, some years the Tacoma camera is good, and some years it’s bad. I’m also pointing out that some other non high end rides of similar years have great cameras, so it was possible for Toyota to go for a better camera.

It was a recall. I bought my ‘18 in December 2018 and they did the recall then. The replaced master cylinders have some kind of paint marking applied so a tech can tell just by looking.
You can put your VIN in Toyota’s recall search to see all recalls that may apply to your truck. I assume none will show if they were already done to your truck.

    Just go to Toyota.com/recall

I think it was for models outside of Off Road and Pro as they have a different style MC/Booster.

See I'd argue 18 was the best year. I guess opinions are a dime a dozen

For those of you who drive the 2021, Are the transmission problems from the 16 -19 still present in the 2021? Not holding gears ; ? How about the differential howling? Reason I asked I had a 2016 and had these problems,, thinking about getting the 2021 if the problems were worked out

Have had 16, 17, 19 and now 20, my 16 had the howl (2 rear dif replacements and a new truck later), my 17, 19 and 20 didnt/dont. The 20 is improved in transmission logic but that was a TSB update that can be done on prior model years too.

Have heard about the tsbs for the transmission problems but for some people the problem persisted after a while. Hope they fixed that because that was the main reason I sold my 16. I’m really hoping the 21 drives better

I had the update on my 17 done after it was released and had a few scary moments merging, etc. with that truck and the hesitating. My 19s never had any transmission hesitation or similar manners as the 16 and 17 did. 20 has been flawless. I'd take people's reports on here with a grain of salt when it comes to the transmission.
