19’ DCSB SR5 with 19k miles had been used as dealership rental. It came out of rental a month ago after the fuel pump recall, then sat in the lot. Walked the first day at the list price of 34989. The dealership manager emailed me the next morning offering it at 30,489. I bought it yesterday afternoon with Pre-approval of my credit union 3.89 % for 78 months. Still scared someone gonna say it was mistake and take it back out of the driveway lol.

Many (most?) States don't allow you to buy directly so buying online is generally no different. I found a quote from Quartz saying that 30% of the money consumers pay on new cars goes to the dealer and the dealer supply chain. They didn't cite where they got that number from so I don't know the validity. Given the outrageous 10 or $15k markup I keep seeing on tacomas, I wouldn't be surprised.

Haha I did ask for the longer terms as the rate was the same 60-78 months through my credit union. In Maine there are no penalties for paying extra to the principal or killing the loan faster. I’m having a baby in April and wanted the lower payment option available for the time being as we figure things out.

Same vehicle I've been hunting for most of the year. When Covid hit, and the market went wacky I made a decision to wait thinking I could get a reasonable deal when the '21's came out. Given that a 2020 is essentially now a year old on the model roll out, I wouldn't consider this offer reasonable and would wait if you can to see where the market is for a '21 in a month or six which is the path it looks like I'll be taking. Not sure what the magic number would be for me to buy a '20, but its not the one they're offering you (not for me anyway).

Yeah, we've gone back and forth a few times but they won't budge on the price. They've actually said they've never discounted a Tacoma more then $500, so I know they won't deal. I might as well order a '21 from my local dealer for the same price and just pick it up in the spring. Winters almost here, and we all know how much Toyota pickups love the salt. Might as well wait.

Gonna be hard finding a vehicle without added options/accesories. I was also searching for the same vehicle, manual Access cab and it was difficult finding one, let alone one without all the added stuff that has a huge markup. Good luck in your hunt, might be wise to get price quotes for this truck exactly how you want it from multiple dealers and pick the best priced one. I ended up ordering one exactly how I want it and am now waiting for it.

The price seems a bit high for a used SR5, but the market is upside down now. So it may be normal for the time. That interest and length is crazy, I’m assuming since it’s used that’s why the interest rate is so high.

The market is insane for trucks and housing. I didn’t want to wait till the snow craze hits here and it gets harder to find a decent low mileage truck. I can refinance it any time thru the credit union and I may do so in about a year. I paid a whopping 12.99 % interest on my used 02’ Bugeye Subaru about 6 years ago so this seems like nothing in comparison.

Update: I gave the 2.7L a go for a month, and while it was a good truck, I just wasn’t in love with it. As luck would have it, the dealership less than 6 miles from me had my dream truck in stock. I noticed it as I happened to be driving by and the next day went in at opening and purchased my next 20 year truck. I LOVE the Voodoo blue Taco! My new Blueberry 2.0!

I have been a cars.com just to check out the tacoma inventory... the manual vs automatic.... 23:1 ratio... stick is hard to come by.

Why pay cash on a depreciating asset when you can finance it for ~3% and then take that money and earn 8-10% (or more) in the stock market?

It's all about risk, if you have the cash to cover the loan it's okay. But if you don't and lose your income, you are in trouble.

If you had a $500,000 house, would you cash out refinance and invest it all in stocks?

Neither is wrong, just depends on risk tolerance. Your point is valid though.
