The pandemic has affected supply lines/materials acquisition/production. So, here I sit, waiting, more waiting.

It’s back in the garage after a few months at a buddy’s shop. We scanned the rear frame section and worked on a new rear crossmember design.

And now I have the interior ripped out of it again...

I’ll have some more pics detailing the updated wiring for the rear view mirror delete setup. As well as the insulation mat install.

Due to having a Drifter with a solid rear door(privacy issues), the rear view mirror becomes obsolete. I designed a solution to the tech-deck ergo problems. I mount an iPad where the rear view was. Plus it has integrated dashcam/go pro mounts.

    Interesting.

My delete is a metal plate with a 3D printed insert. You can use a ram ball mount or 67 designs ball mount. And then your arm/tablet mount. There is also an anti rattle arm that connects the top of your tablet as well. Hoping for a thorough test in the desert here in a couple of months.

The problem with most of these is that they are too wide and prevent you from using your visors without having to push the mirror way out of adjustment and twisting it to make it effectively less narrow.

Exactly like that, but different...

Mine is a full plate that attaches to the roof bracing. It’s a fully triangulated pieced that shouldn’t have any, if much, “slap”. You can run a tablet of your choice with my setup. I recommend an iPad mini.

Im interested too. After I get my GFC, the only point of me keeping my rear view mirror is because the backup camera is in there. I have been thinking about replacing it with a wireless one that also has capability of a front camera. I never thought of trying to put anything else in that area.

On my 1st gen, I got used to driving with only the side mirrors through the various shells and campers I had on it.
Now I just have the rear view removed in the 2nd gen, but I do have the head unit with tailgate handle camera on the 2.5 gen...

I was going to try to move it to an aftermarket radio, but its a huge pain and I hate wiring. I think the input is 6v. If im not going to be able to use it, Im still thinking about the wireless camera because its just a t-tap to the reverse light wire. And its capable of doing dual cameras like I wanted.

hmm i hadn’t thought of that. The unit i linked is just shy of 12.” I have a Broadway mirror clipped on top of the stock mirror which is about 10.75” wide. I might be able to make the mirror work just barely without interfering with the visors. Thanks for the heads up!

I started in on re wiring the interior accessories and running power to the iPad, dash cam and the GoPro.

Last year I installed an SPOD Bantam accessory switch system. It’s a great way to quickly organize your accessory switches. I opted for the carling switch model. The little screen doesn’t quite have the old rocker switch tactile feel.

I also wanted to replace the carpet with the factory vinyl flooring.

    the entire interior was removed.

    295C9C18-DA2D-46AC-A7A3-FEFC7B178AB7.jpg

The flooring was installed with the help of my 3.5 year old daughter.

Time to drill some holes for cable routing.

    Time bust out the dremel.

    5CBE7FDC-130D-4804-A181-9FB87CD9EB30.jpg

I slit a silicon vacuum hose to protect the cabling.

    2B359917-05A4-4028-84DB-B5E6DA1F4C27.jpg

The rear camera data/power cabling was routed through the roof of the cabin and out the rear grommet on the lower driver side of the cabin.

    More to come...
