Alright all, I'll be undertaking a regear on my 2005 auto soon, and I have some questions.

    1. What EXACTLY is everything needed for the regear?

    2. Is there a kit that would take out any guess work? If so what's the company?

    3. I'll be running a 265/75r16 tire, what is the best gears for this application? 4.10s?

4.10 is kinda low for an Auto with those tires. Id go higher, would be good if MT. Lots of companies out there, just need to google it. others can help more, but wanted to tell u the 4.10s would be too low on an auto

What do you mean by "too low"? I know my rpms may be a little high on the highway at 4.10. I do a lot of highway driving, so should I just keep my stock gears and deal with it being a slug? I'm just not very knowledgeable on gearing.

    Hey
There is two ways you can go about this,
1- replace only the gears or
    2- replace the third member

    I picked #2,
I found a used 3rd member, that had the gears I was looking for and even had LSD
My truck is manual transmission, I am running 245/75/17 tires, 3.73 gears w/ mechanical LSD
Our trucks can run the 3rd member from a 6 lug Taco (except the E-locker one)and it is a bolt on process.
I have to say that it is not an easy job

I uploaded 2 videos of how I went about re-gearing my truck
    here is a link
    Project Lil Taco - YouTube

To help you determine what gear you need, use the formula on this link if you scroll down you will see a chart that will help guide you about what gears to use,
depending on what you want to focus on, EX. fuel economy, more power or best overall performance
    here is a screen shot
The tire size you will be running is 31.6" in diameter, (which is closer to 32" to round up)
Go to the column that says "Tire diameter" then choose what is more important to you

    To give you my example
MY tire size is 31.5" BUT Iam running a manual trans, I went w/ 3.73 and I am very happy
    about how it feels.
To me it is night and day difference.
Before I replace the 3rd member, the RPM was very low at hwy speeds but it felt like it had no power
After I replaced it, I got the power back and the truck is now fun to drive.
You can see my reaction on the video, which is the last one I uploaded.

    I hope that helps :)

as in, youd be better off with 4.56. 4:10 would be gtg for a manual running those size tires. You definitely want to upgrade going that big, can prolly run ur stock gears for couple months if ur in a pinch; but itll be a turd lol

Ill prolly run my stock 3.58's for a bit unless the money is there for my 6 lug rear when i go bigger to 31's-32. But, im MT, so I can just run a lower gear for everything and avoid 5th gear

This helps and it doesn't lol. I want the truck to have a little more pep and passing power, so I thought gears would help. But seeing as I drive on the highway everyday for work (short distance) and I drive on it about 6 hours round trip every other weekend, maybe keeping my stock gears would be best?

u want ur rpms about 3k at highway speeds. ( our trucks love higher RPM's, especially 4 cyl) With running bigger tires, youll drop down to about 2k on OD and will chase gears likely doing ur daily drive. Like I said it's doable, but ur truck will struggle with it cycling gears slower due to the increased diameter of tires.

I looked at the calculator, and it's recommending me to go with 4.10s. That's what I'll probably do. I might call East Coast Gear Supply and figure out exactly what I need. Is it just a simple ring and pinion swap from a t100?

@Lil Taco Guy could give better info on that question than me, since im first gen and rears are a bit diff between our gens. In my case ill literally slap a 6 lug axle in entirety to the rear after re welding the perches n shit

I guess I'm more or less sold on the 4.10s. Now I just gotta figure out how I'm going to pay the arm and leg it'll take to buy everything and have it installed.
