First time doing maintenance on my Tacoma that I just purchased. It is a 2016 with 90,000 miles. I called the dealership to see what the quote was on changing the spark plugs since it’s time to do a tuneup. They charge me $302 of which $64 of that is just the cost of Spark Plugs. I’ve never personally done spark plugs on a vehicle and it is a bit intimidating since I’ve heard horror stories of irreversible damage done by lack of knowledge. Wanted to know if anyone thought if that was a fair price, or if the dealership is doing what they do best and just up charging.

I just bought 6 OEM plugs through Amazon and they cost $32. It took me a couple hours (I'm slow) to change them out, very straight forward job. The four cylinder would obviously be a lot faster. Plenty of information and help available here.

Paid $35 or so (give or take a dollar) at the local store, didn't really shop around b/c I had a decent day to get it done. Took about an hour of work.

First time I've done them on my truck at 112K or any vehicle not like the old school plug and wire. The video @BillsSR5 posted is very helpful. Just do one at a time and take your time.

Got it. Just called dealership to get part numbers and ordered them to do this weekend. Thank you to all!

if anyone is curious in the future the part number for spark plugs for 2.7L 3RD Gen MT is:
    90919-01287

    Make sure you buy four!

Trust me if you've done plugs on any other vehicle you can do this. I found it actually easier in some ways once you get stuff out of the way

very easy DIY, you can handle it, basically u need a 5/8 spark plug socket and a descent extension, torque wrench don't even need to use anti-seize

Thanks for posting up the part #. I didn’t realize the 3rd gen 2.7s used a different plug than the gen 2. They did bump compression up a little bit so maybe that’s why.

Each dealer was quoting ridiculous prices for all of them, one even quoted me $96 just for the plugs. I got them for $11 apiece by picking them up from my local dealership.

Good for you, mikelh! I have basic/medium mechanical skills. I recently changed out my spark plugs (4) and serpentine drive w/AC belt in under 2 hours on my 2012 Tacoma. And I took my time........ A very easy job. Torque wrench is need IMO. Good video's here for reference. You'll be fine and heavier in the pockets money wise.

I am a pretty gifted bargain shopper and found a set of 4 OEM NGK iridiums for $35 plus tax. $64 is pretty expensive but sounds about right for a dealership.
However, I have no idea how they arrived at $240 labor, a decent technician can do these plugs in 1/2 hour.
