Question for tomato growers..... will cherry tomatoes that froze on the vine, ripen and be edible? Or is there anything I can make with them? Most are green and only a few are turning red, but not ripe yet

The ones that are turning red but not ripe you should be able to bring in the house and they will continue to ripen.

    Picked some fruit today.

The frozen part is the only variable, but if you bring them inside they should ripen up.

First frost last night, so no more fresh garden peppers until next summer. My habanero seeds didn't germinate this year, so are there any recommendations for better seed suppliers?

A cousin suggested Burpee seeds. Thoughts?

I use burpee for other seeds and never had an issue. I haven’t bought habaneros though.

I go through Johnny's for 90% of my seed purchases, but it's been a while since I've bought Jalapeno's (I just save a few seeds from my plants every year)
A buddy of mine buys from Territorial and he has good luck with germ rates.

I've had good luck with Fedco seeds. Fast shipping and very reasonable prices and a selection that seems to go on forever.

Are you talking got frost on them, or rock hard frozen? If the latter, they are done. They will turn to mush when they thaw. Any that are ripe you could juice, but that's about it.

If you are looking specifically for hot pepper varieties I would recommend Jayrseyshore Peppers. Been using him for years for sauces and seeds. Never bought his fresh pods but he sells those as well as an option if you wanted to taste what you're planting.

Thats what I thought. Not sure they froze solid, dust definitely frosted.

Nothing fancy; I keep them in the little paper seed pouches that the originals came from Johnny's in. :notsure:

2021 off to a good start at the new house, some fences raised garden beds and greenhouses. Already have some germination, last frost should be in about a week or two.

Nice, I see you are doing the "square foot garden" technique. Our last frost is over three months away.

After a fairly successful year last year (first year in several to raise a garden and first garden at current property), I'm stoked and ready to roll for this years garden. Already have a bunch of onions started from seeds and some broccoli started in the house. Planning to start some tomatoes and probably a few other things shortly. Hoping to have a bumper crop of potatoes this year, last year every place around was sold out on seed potatoes and was only able to get maybe 5 lbs, planning to do at least 20lbs this year.

Love knowing what I'm growing and what's in it. The crazier this world gets the more self-sufficient, and hermitized I want to be. Don't know if hermitized is a word or not but I'll make it one lol.

Hopefully I'll remember to try to update here some throughout the year.

Also, if anyone has any tips on melons, I'm all ears. Last year my cantaloupes did fair, but several if not all ended up busting while still on the vine. The watermelons on the other hand were a total fail. Had 2 different varieties, one seedless and one 'giant', the seedless only produced one or two melons and never got ripe, and the others that were supposed to be big wouldn't get more than maybe 5-6lbs and didn't want to ripen either. Not sure if it was my ground, bad year, my abilities, or what happened to them. So any suggestions or tips would be appreciated.
