I had a dental pick to clean out the stupid torex bolts. I put it in my parts / tool box. You guessed it next time I reached in to the box in the dark what stuck right in my hand 1/2’ fffff

@Chris(NJ) welcome to my mess, nightmare, project, money pit, obsession :)

Soooo your profile picture is a 1949 -1945 Chevrolet advance design truck :)

I had a 1953 GMC 9430 that I pulled out of the woods to rebuild on a s10

Pictures should be in this blog somewhere

All ways had a soft spot for them :)

    Anyways ............

Picked up tube gaskets rear bearings and sleeves spent about $700 today on the truck

Right now it has 436000km hoping to get 2-3 more years out of it

    Or 10

I have a friend who has a 07 t4r that has the same motor and trans with lower km that I might try and pickup as a “when this blows up” repair kit .........

Ok ok last post for tonight

I have a confession I am a excel nerd and have this truck tracked down to the penny

    I have driven this 55661km
Total not including gas or insurance it cost me $6136.15 this includes the $700ish bill today

    That’s $0.11 a km

ha, thanks. Always fun looking at other people's projects :)

You got it! It's a '49 3100. 350sbc, rear end is probably the most expensive part of the truck. Front is a garbage mustang II that probably came from china at some point in it's life.
I'll poke through the thread slowly and look for the pics!

The Fsm says you need to remove the head and to do it 100% the right way

But this was not a route I wanted to go down as it is a huge job as most of if not all the components on the front of the motor need to come off as the timing cover needs to come off for the chain. Then the cam then the head and with 436000km it would turn into a can of

My pipe was so rotted that I took the bolts out and was able to twist it to get it out. I stuck a pry bar in the pipe and bent it the old one.

Putting the new one in is tricky I bent the mounting tabs to allow the pipe to be placed in. I also used a pry bar to finesse it into its location. This put a small dent on the new tube under here [IMG]

If I had my time back I would of bent the small pipe closer to the big pipe on the front as a hose only goes over it. Do not deform the ends just a light bend

I used a punch to put in the hole of the bent bracket to straighten it to the proper location and slid the punch into the bolt hole in the block.

I also used some plumbers tape to wrap the heads of a few bolts so they would stay in the socket

Would I do this again 100% yes !
