The XL80 will have about the same distance as the Pro as it features a domed LED ( a huge one at that) versus the smaller, domeless chip used in the Racer Edition lights

Hello good people - looking to use the cable below cable for hooking an S8 light bar up to an SPOD (as you can see below, this was suggested by the BD folks earlier in this thread when someone asked about an SPOD harness for an S8 lightbar.)

I'd like the amber backlighting to come on when the vehicle is on.

Any ideas on where to run the the Green (second positive for Amber Backlight) for this to happen? Presumably there's a better option than running a wire into the cab (given the whole point of having an SPOD is to not have to run wires into the cab.) ...

It would be great if the backlight just came on when the vehicle was started. Is there a spot in the engine compartment where it can be tied in to come on when the vehicle is started? Is there a DLR switch or something?

    Thanks for any help.

While some people like to leave this circuit untouched, I used an add a circuit to tap into the EFI fuse under the hood. The fun part is after the truck is parked for a few hours, the circuit gets power from the EFI doing some checks, so the backlighting will come on momentarily too. It doesn’t harm anything of course, so I don’t mind it.

@Baja Designs I got an email regarding the updated led chips used in the squadron pros, is your website updated with new information on the pros? Nothing on there seems to mention it.

Can we send our current squadron pros in to be updated? Thanks.

@memario1214 can you confirm? I had to learn about these from an email...you suck at keeping me in the loop of secret stuff :boink:

    Hey guys,

As was confirmed, the top LEDs were adjusted to the domeless LEDs in our Racer Edition series. The extra distance is a nice extra push for sure. Please don't blame our dealers for being hush hush :). We request and greatly appreciate that they keep updates like this confidential until we publicly release. This allows us to make the transition as seamless and fair as possible. It takes a long time for us and our dealers to update all of the specs and info online and there are a many other moving pieces.

That said - yes you can upgrade your board for a nominal fee. This is a custom order and requires a phone call or email. We are spread a bit thin right now with all the great and not so great (2020) things going so we'd actually much appreciate if you can email us and keep patience in mind. Jeffrey@bajadesigns.com is our Retail Sales Manager and will help get these upgrades processed as quickly as we can.

Stoked to be able to offer this upgrade to you guys. Sorry that you beat me to posting before I could get the announcement live. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

    -Chris F

Is there a definitive process to aiming a light bar other than turning it on and manually aiming it to where you feel like you have the least amount of midfield glare/brightness and the most distance, or is that how it's usually done?

Chris - I tried the email twice and it bounced back undeliverable... is there a typo maybe?

It did the same to me, his link says “Jeffrey” but when you click it it comes up “Jefferey” so I manually changed it to “Jeffrey” and it went through. I’d imagine that’s what the problem was.

For anyone that was considering having their “old” squadron pros updgraded to the newest style it’s $100 PER light...

I wonder what gets replaced? If it's the entire board/lens assembly would it drop into a Sport?

So for $200 you could theoretically swap a pair of Sports to Pros? Interesting..

If they’re willing to do the upgrade on sports, they’d have to answer that.

Sorry! Don't know why he can't just go by Jeff:p. I edited the post, but I guess the link stayed the same. Will adjust now for future members.

In theory, yes we can. We advertise this type of service less and less frequently due to how busy we have become over the last few years. It is something we still like to offer for any product line, but there is a small chance you may be turned away depending on how busy we are and which product you are wanting to swap.

Pricing would be about the same as a new gen Pro upgrade - as you are changing out the exact same components.

Personally a Sport to Pro conversion wouldn't be an ideal transaction. At the end of the day, you are paying the same that you would for a Pro off the shelf, but you are not getting the premium housing ano/powder coat combination featured on the Pro. Just my $.02...
