Planning on replacing slave on a 2020 taco?

All 3rd gen clutches do that in really cold temps. Its not ideal, but its normal unfortunately. I would think ADM would help a bit with that.

    Mine does this.

Last winter i still had the accumulator and it was bad.

This year i have dremeled the accumulator and it is still slow but it isn't as bad, it seems to go back to normal faster with that restriction out of the way.

Hi I just bought a 2013 access cab 2wd with a 2.7 and manual 5 speed trans. The clutch was horrible. Pedal was very slow when cold and chatters often when starting off. Pedal had no feel either. I just got rid of my 02 Tacoma 2wd 2.4 and clutch was great. So what I did first was bleed the clutch. Fluid looked nasty. Truck has 99k miles and fluid looked original. That helped with the sluggish pedal in temps below 25f but pedal still feels like crap and chatters. So today I ordered a clutch slave cylinder and installed it. Greased slave rod at throw out fork. Still felt same. Looked under dash and there is a big spring mounted on clutch pedal assembly. Looks to me like a friction damper type of contraption. Well I pushed the clutch pedal in and pulled the spring off the pedal assembly. Clutch feel is terrific. I can feather clutch in parking lot and drives a lot like the 2002 I just got rid of. I had to pick up a return spring at home depot to get clutch pedal to return back to engage clutch switch so cruise works

Mine did this too, spend a few days in Butte a couple years back and temps below 0 I felt like I was shifting a bike. Had to put my foot under the pedal and yank it back up.

Too much to name for this little space
Mine did the same thing so I took it to a dealer and they said it's normal, something about the clutch being a polymer instead of a metal idk. My clutch pedal did start to creak if I let it out slowly so I had the recall replace it at 36k and at 53k it's doing it again, I think you just have to live with a shitty clutch

Get some Disc Brake Grease on all the pivot points of the pedal and that old barn door creak will go away.

My '13 did that in very cold temps. After a minute or two it went away

My 22 has a slow return rate when it's warm... really slow now that it's -20c outside. must be normal I guess, truck only has 600km on it.

My 2020 does it below about 0F if I park it outside overnight. It takes about 1 second to return from the floor to fully engaged. I have just wait to hit the gas. It’s super annoying, but it frees up after a mile or two. I’ve never had another vehicle that behaved the same. I mean everything gets stiff at 0F, but this is over the top.

I noticed it when I first got the truck. Even at 0c and after a half hour of driving, if I dumped the clutch (out of gear) the clutch would take long enough to return that it would tap my foot a moment later. That's about as slow as the clutch in my sunfire at -30 after idling for only 15 minutes. Doesn't seem right to me but if this many people are reporting the same issue... must be just the way it is.

That behavior sounds like the accumulator to me. It’s trying to save your drive train from the strain dumping the clutch would otherwise have. I notice no difference at 32F/0C. That’s balmy. I don’t notice anything really annoying until around 0F/-18C. Just ballpark temp.

To be fair... I've never driven the truck in Temps above maybe 5c. I've also never driven a manual car newer than 05... and I read people talking about the accumulator just had no clue what it was. Thanks!

I had never heard of a clutch accumulator until I joined this forum. A lot of people hate on it and many remove it. I don’t mind it. I figure it just saves me when I make a mistake. I’ve gotten use to the feel of the clutch and don’t have any complaints about its feel; except when it’s cold out and I park it outside over night

at the end of the day, i suppose its alright. my uncle, who built sas units for some 15 years and wheeled for a lot longer, always told me to keep everything stock if i wanted it to last.

2022 with 23,000 kms and does it at -8C and below. Gets better as things warm like everyone else has mentioned up but it freaks me out. Never had a vehicle do this, cable or hydraulic, 1984 being the oldest clutch we had with 220,000 original kms and North American.
