Do it!!! I've wanted one since I saw the thread over a year ago. A canvas style of the one on here would be awesome. :D

    Just the basics
There are quite a few people who offroad with the flippac. Depends on the type of offroading too. I'm not doing prerunning woop dee doos. I've run Lippincott, Saline Valley, and Cerro Gordo with the flippac.

I don't like the look much either but I'm more for function over fashion. It is awesome to get to camp, flip it open and be able to sleep off the ground in comfort in less than a minute. I can stand up inside if I need to. Where ever I park I can essentially sleep/camp. Even if I don't deploy the top it is still a shell and I can lay inside. To each his own.

The support bars do not hold the bulk of the weight of the deployed flippac. There is a torsion bar which does most of the work.

I started with sleeping under my tonneau. Then I made a sleeping platform and devised a way to raise the tonneau directly up above the truckbed and cover it with mosquito net. Even for a two day trip to Death Valley with 3 people my tonneau was bowing upwards with all the stuff I had packed in the truckbed. After doing a lot of research I decided the flippac was what was the best fit for me.

Some of the best flippac builds and pics of some ideal off roading:

Would love to have a roof top tent or a truck bed tent for some lighter camping.

    Hey Maine,

I am the guy who started the post with the truck bed tent. As you can see I have a access cab with 6' bed and believe it or not I am 6'7" and love sleeping in it!
The tent extends to the end of the tailgate in the down position. I currently use a twin air mattress inside but they do make ones that fit around the wheel wells and go to the end of the bed.
Go get one they are sweet! I picked mine up on Craigslist for $75 used one time!
My buddy that has my identical truck in a '10 wants one now too!

    Good luck.

Sorry for the invalid link. Here is where I got my truck tent. $70 is a stupid price, and I've probably used it 20 times in the 8 months I've had it. Love it. Check it out...

So this link works fine on my computer, but it's the same as the one that wasn't working for some ppl I guess. Go to www.sportsmansguide.com and search Guide Gear Truck Tent. You'll find it right away!

Over here we have fairly narrow trails with trees. I had been thinking that a shell would somehow not work in that situation, but as I mentioned I guess it's like wheeling a 4Runner as far as shape goes.

"Don't bring tents, you will be assigned a group tent." As a young teen you haven't had those great life experiences of finding out how some people's idea of decent equipment is lower when they aren't the ones having to use it. You're also at the age when someone says, "we're here for a week unless someone is dying" means exactly that.
Now I either bring my own stuff or I know the location of the nearest hotel. I also volunteer to drive so I can sleep in the cab or drive out if it's nasty

He doesn't have that, he's just quoting another thread. Read his post and you'll find they aren't in production.

I think he is actually talking about the picture I posted of mine. The bumperchute product looks similar to my setup.
