Hello. I have a 2014 4WD four cylinder manual transmission Tacoma. This problem is intermittent, it happened two days ago, okay yesterday, now happening again.

When the switch is turned to 4H the indicator light will not come on, and 4WD is not engaged. If I turn off the engine, turn the switch to 4H, and start the engine, the light is lit and 4WD is engaged.

The truck was serviced at the dealer at 47,621 miles, on December 13. Among the service was changing the transfer case fluids and "transfer case service."

Before I call the dealer, can anyone here shed any light on this? Thanks for your help.

Gosh I miss the old "shifters", they always worked, & any shift problem was very, very, very rare. Welcome to the new & improved world, My actuator sometimes works, sometimes won't.

Sorry to be so late getting back to this. The issue is resolved, it was the actuator. Required four trips to the dealer, the service manager thought the problem was elsewhere. Long story short, I took the truck in while he was on vacation, the tech put in a used actuator and tested, that was the problem. One more trip for the new part to be installed. Good news is that it was all on warranty.
