For your consideration...Mototote, KB Voodoo cross bars, Volvo bike carrier, and generic Amazon cargo basket...

KBVooDoo is local to here - nice! Thats quite the set up - I love it. Mototote looks like a solid option. Quite a bit more money than the ones linked above. hmm

The MotoTote is worth it...great design and a solid Father/Son company out of Texas...great customer service and may hook you up with an off-season deal or military discount possibly...I would buy another one in a heartbeat...mine is powder coated gun metal grey btw; they come black...they have two versions available and mine is the lighter duty sport version which is plenty for dirt bikes and dual sports etc.

I was actually stationed in Allegany working at St. Bonaventure not long ago...I was right down the street from KB Voodoo then but didn't have my Tacoma of course so didn't know it...

got the chance to use my rack-n-ride. My thoughts:

    • Carrier does great. It is absolutely solid in the hitch without any unwanted movement when using the supplied shims and anti-wobble bracket.
    • Its not overly cumbersome to handle by yourself maybe if your a bit smaller then it would be.
    • I purchased the longer steel ramp, which is helpful. I dont think the aluminum ramp would have been justifiable for the cost.
    • I found loosening both peg turnbuckles before loading to be the easiest. I start with clipping the inside peg then pulling towards my body to clip the outside. The bike is definitely captured and ill never have to worry about straps again when i use the carrier.
    • My truck did average pretty shit-tastic gas mileage (drove from KC to moab to vegas and back) with an average around 10mpg (typically get 13-14). I wont blame this on the rack itself though as i was doing 80-85mph compared to the typical 70mph. I felt like there was a bit more drag though with the bike perpendicular to airflow and it being so high up on the high clearance bumper.
    • Bike gets a lot dirtier being behind the rear wheels than in the bed. Tires throw all kinds of stuff up like snow that i drove through in colorado. Mud flaps would help for sure.
    • I did gain full bed access again and will be putting a tonneau cover on so that means dry/clean secure storage for gear. I really got tired of putting smelly gear in the truck and having to drive back or having to take it all out at a hotel which was really my entire driving factor behind trying a carrier again.

Anyways, i have to say this is a great carrier and would definitely recommend.

Is there a weight limit on these? Can’t find one published on the website.

There is on the au website listed as 180kg = 396lbs. Not sure why they dont list it on the us site.

Thanks, didn’t think to check their AU site. I was hoping it would be a little higher based on beefy it looks.

Honestly the thing is stout. Not sure what kind of bike your putting on but i wouldnt worry too much if it was stretching to 450

Damn a carrier that can support relatively tough offroad use? I dig it a lot.

My new to me Tacoma has a bit more lift than my old one that I originally purchased the Motohauler for. Let’s just say ground clearance isn’t a problem. D87A8048-840A-42D8-85FA-7F39E984ED14.jpg

are you able to open the tailgate with it in the hitch? i read differing things so i didnt want to mess with it and jacks going out eventually. do you tie the front bars down so they dont move?

No, you can’t open the tailgate with it on the hitch, which is annoying. I actually fabricated an extension that moves the motohauler back just beyond the tailgate’s arc and raises it a few inches for more ground clearance (helpful for my last Tacoma, unnecessary now). It worked for my old taco with the factory hitch; unfortunately it doesn’t fit in the CBI hidden hitch, I planned on running it upside down to lower the hauler a few inches. And yes, you tie the handle bars down with a ratchet strap.

How do you get the bike onto the lift?
    Any tips or tricks?

I have the same motohauler and I have a 3" lift. My issue is that to start with im not tall, 5'3 and I have a ktm 400 exc. By the time my knees are lock the suspension is just fully extended with the wheels still touching the ground and bikes belly is still about 3" from the platform.

If i lift from rear or front rims, i really feel like I got the bike really high in the air and its really unstable.

The best so far I've found is to put rear truck tires in the curb, that makes it just low enough I don't have lift real high.

I have the Black Widow MC 600
It works good for my CRF450L.
Next I would like to sell the bed cover and add a camper shell.
    20200617_121538.jpg
I also added some turn buckles to remove some of the rocking on rougher roads
