    Hey,
I bought my truck about 2 months ago. 193,000 miles, and I am currently having problems with my 4wd, the original problem was that it wasn’t disengaging when I went from 4wd to 2wd. And when I would go into 4lo it would beep. So I just did what all the other forums said which was soldering the terminals on the Motor of the actuator. When I pulled the actuator apart the motor had a lot of rust and corrosion, I cleaned it up to the best of my ability and put it back together. I just drove it and now nothing is working. When I go to 4wd it’s not engaging, and still not disengaging into 2wd. I used to be able to turn the key off to disengage 4wd now that doesn’t even work. Can someone please give me a hand?!

That is the same exact video that I watched to try to fix it in the first place but that had made the problem worse. Any other ideas?

Did you test it like he did before you put it back together?

Not being condescending here, just making sure we cover all the bases. You know how to switch modes right?
    4Hi "on the fly"
    4Lo "stop and go"

Essentially you should be rolling down the road in fairly straight line without any spinning wheels to go 2Hi->4Hi OR 4Hi->2Hi
To go into (or out of) 4Lo, you need to come to a full stop and put it in neutral, then switch and wait for it to engage. If you dont do this you get the beeping

Yeah I understand how 4wd and 4lo work. I also did test it when I soldered it back together and the motor ran fine.

I will give that a whirl. What fuses do I need to check?

If everything else on the trucks works fine, I’d start with the 20A 4WD fuse.
(I honestly don’t think this is the problem)
Let hope it is this easy :fingerscrossed:

Not sure why the Taco 4x4 has these issues...

What I have learned (once ya get the system working....

'use it-----or lose it' take it in the dirt and switch back/forth

My three other 4x4 units...'11 GX 460---'02 Chevy 2500HD---'18 Teryx

All go right in 4x4 and right back out when you tell it to

    So what's up Tacoma ?

My '14 has improved just by 'using it' often

Checked the 20A fuse and it’s not blown. What’s next?

I have done everything that that has said except one thing. The transfer case actuator, does this sound like it might be a problem?

That was a big help! But still haven’t got the problem figured out. But I know it is the transfer case actuator, now the 4wd light is solid and the 4lo light is flashing even tho I’m in 2wd. Any ideas from here?

    awesome information!
Just purchased a 12 tx pro.
My 08 base rip was standard thought I had actuator issues but your description makes it work like clockwork.

Somewhere in your manual it tells you to use 4wd for 10 miles a month as a maintenance item. The more you know.
