Ive searched high and low and cant find a straight answer . I have a 01 tacoma with the w59 5speed behind a 2rz (currently on 7lbs of boost). I purchsed a 01 is300 swap car with a 2jz ge and am going to swap it into my tacoma truck is going to be na for quite sone time so I want to use tye stock w59 trans. I know r154 is the way to go and when I go for huge power I will go that route but for now for cost and time I want to use the w 59. My question is what do I need to bolt it to the 2j. Ive heard using a w58 bell will work but then ive also heard otherwise. Also what clutch and flywheel do I run. Thanks in advance to thoes who help

ok I know that the w58 tranny will bolt up to the 2j but I'm not sure of the difference between the w58 & w59 I think at the very least the bell housings
should swap and you can use the 2j clutchattachment.php.jpg

Always run whatever clutch you can get replaced under the autozone warranty.

Ok thanks. So I should probably look for a clutch of a supra or maybe even a is300 standard trans clutch and flywheel

The difference between the W58 and W59 are the gear ratios for the input reduction, 1st, 2nd, and 5th.

Excluding the bellhousing and shifter housing, the rest of the transmission is the same assuming they are from the same production range and option set.

The large-bearing steel plate W-series transmissions produced after November 1991 are all very similar, with some small running changes and a few vehicle-specific alterations. They all feature synchro'd reverse. Single synchros are the standard option for forward gears with triple cone for 2nd and double cone for 3rd being optional (all large-bearing steel plate W57 and W58's use the multi-cone synchros, some W55, W56, and W59's do as well). All W55-59 are available in 2WD and the W56 and W59 are available in 4WD as well. The IS300 W55 has an 11mm longer input shaft, while all other W-series transmissions I am aware of share the shorter shaft.

You can definitely use a W59 on a 2JZ with a 2JZ/W58 bellhousing. I would avoid the 2JZ/W55 bellhousing unless you are also using the longer input shaft. The longer input shaft from the IS300 W55 can be used directly in the W55, W56, and W59. It can also be used in the W57 and W58 provided you use the W55 counter shaft, note that this would convert a W58 into a W55, and that the W57 with the W55 input/counter shafts will have W55 gear ratios for 1 through 4, and a 5th gear ratio of 0.935:1, which is obviously not the best option. W55/6/8 (0.850:1) or W59 (0.810:1) 5th gear sets are the most appropriate for such a setup.
