with my first rifle, a Remington youth model break action .243/20 gauge. Had interchangeable barrels. I did way more partridge hunting than I did big game though.

My wife popped a button head a few weeks back at neary 200 yards. She hit it right behind the last rib (I assume it was quarreling away a pretty good bit but she isn't the greatest story teller) the bullet didn't exit so I figured it made it to the opposite should and just decided to take a rest. Luckily it only went about 30 yards because there was no blood because of that.

This is all that's left of one that I shot with inexpensive Marlin youth model in .243 back in 2011. 2010? That rifle with hand loads put five in a quarter size group at 100 yards. Pretty decent for price point. This buck was shot at approximately 60-70 yards.20201214_053746.jpg

Have taken a few coyotes with a Remington R25 in .243 as well. Pictures were lost on my old phone when it crashed.

My son (8) shot this one last Thursday at 120 yards with his Remington Model Seven youth .243 a friend from church gave him last year. Dropped him in his tracks.

Cole did it again yesterday with his youth .243, 9 pt. Biggest deer he’s ever had in front of him.

Pawpaw gave me both of his .243’s a few years before he passed. My boys will each get one.
    Deer, yotes and hogs.

My oldest son learned to play this song Ballard of a Southern Man on his guitar, and knows how to play and sing Simple Man also.

    Good cartridge for kids.

My son shot his first deer (doe) at age 8 with one and followed up last year with his first buck.

No she has a problem with sitting more than an hour. She did miss a coyote a few weeks ago, and we saw a spike for 5 or 6 seconds but he was 200+ yards out and would respond to our calls once he got out of sight

Our son can’t sit that long either, our daughter is 5 and not quite ready to shoot the “big gun” yet :D

That .223 is great on recoil but I'm trying to limit deer shots to 50 yards and broad side of course... If and when tax refunds come in, ill probably get a 350 legend barrel for it; they claim it kicks 20% less than a .243 (somewhere around 8 ft/lbs of recoil in a 7 lb gun) which is about 2x a .223, but I think by next year charleigh can handle it and it still has nearly 1000 ft/lb of energy at 200 yards so it should fit all her hunting needs for several years. Plus a .357 hole going in is nice plus its gonna exit being that heavy unless it hits both shoulders or something... In which case the deer should go far lol

Its good to put out a bird feeder and squirrel feeder about 30ft from the blind, it provides entertainment and natural background noise to mask our fidgety kids.

I first used a .243 while hunting in upstate NY. I borrowed a rifle rather then fly with mine.
I took the buck at 274 yards. He went 60 yards and piled up. He had a big body to him and was over 200lbs when we weighed him. I’m on the left in the picture.

The doe was at 116 yards and dropped in her tracks obviously. That .243 was a tack driver and I felt very confident in my shots. I have since added a .243 to my collection but haven’t shot anything with it yet.
