Today I went out and starting learning about my new Xlock recovery tool. It can be used it many many configurations.

    https://www.safe-xtract.com/fundamental-winch-recovery-configurations/

I used one of the most common today, shortening a winch extension for a single line pull (SLP) self recovery.

I did not need to use this today, I chose to ram my truck into the snow so I could use it

Learning how to use it correctly before I need to use it really important to me.

If anyone else uses this recovery tool, please share!

So he’s admittedly pulling from the second or third layer of rope. And all because he didn’t maintain his winch. I got that far and left. Is this a guy you want to take advice from?

Thanks for not watching!@ Can you believe I told the truth in a video and did not make it seem like I was a pro a new everything!??! Who even does that?

I will now spool it out and re-spool it each time I go home, to ensure it does not happen again. It was all for fun, I was not stuck. Have to learn somewhere, it is my 1st year with a winch :cookiemonster:

Pro tip: check and maintain your recovery gear before you need to use it.

they also make winch covers for a reason

How do you get a winch cover on my winch? It is inside my ARB bumper. o_O Please link me, please.

I had to cut a larger access hole for the free spool handle. You can not get access inside.

This was maintenance, I knew it was frozen from the previous day out. I was fixing it. While using it and the xlock for fun. Maybe fun is not allowed while practicing using recovery equipment?

@llamasmurf I remember seeing you had one of those X-lock things. Just creeped your threads until I found this so I could remember what they're called. :D

Learned the hard way late yesterday afternoon I need one of these in my kit!

Careful, I have no idea what I am talking about according to @Shellshock and @JEEPNIK who both never came back? Yep that keyboard warrior style shined through.:bananadance:

It is an expensive piece of kit, but so so useful.

I cant imagine trying to winch with out it honestly. :burp:

Used one of these during a Off-road Vehicle Recovery course with Morrision Off-road yesterday and I was pretty impressed. I’m not a rigger and can’t remember knots to save my life half the time. The X-lock was stupid simple to use and eliminates the need to remover knots when you need to shorten your winch cable so you’re working off the last wrap. I Stumbled on this thread looking for info on buying one after using it yesterday.

How I use my winch is all extensions, very few feet on the actual spool, I think it was 45' we ended up with.

Just like you I can not tie or remember a knot to save me at any point. This tool is vital to me in recoveries.
