Bed Power outlet

How can Toyota give you a power outlet that can't run a pancake air compressor. Come on.
This would be one of the primary uses if needed at a job site. Has anyone found a way to get it to work?

I think its rated at around 110v.

 

You’ll need to replace the inverter with a higher power unit (inverter is under center console), and increase the wire gauge from the inverter to the bed plug. (As that’s not up to the task either). Ultimately it’s worthless, you’ll be better off using a decent 12v compressor and running appropriate wire.

 

400 watts is only just over 3 amps, you won’t run a 110v compressor off that.

 

Ford F150 hybrid has a 2K inverter. Didn't know the requirements of a pancake compressor till just looked up a few minutes ago. Don't know what the OP was expecting as the output of the Taco's is clearly specified and on the button activating it.

High resell value for the Taco goes long way to the aforementioned Ford.

 

I was just thinking if for example I needed to use my nail gun it would've been nice to be able to run the small compressor. I have a dewalt compressor that runs on the 20v battery but I couldn't use it for my nail gun.

Has enough power for a string of led Christmas lights. That's about the most use I've seen it get. I was wondering about a tiny slow cooker to keep nacho cheese warm... Everyone wants to wheel with the guy who brings warm queso.

 

The bed inverter is really only designed to for chargers and such. So you can power a laptop / charge batteries etc, but not much else, Couldn’t even plug a coffee maker into it. But if you could use your battery powered compressor, you could use the Tacoma to charge the battery’s...... You can however get 12v compressors that will easily run a nail gun.

Thanks for the info. Good to know. Was just hoping to use what i have and avoid buying or start modding LOL. Once you start modding its a endless road.

 

Honda Ridgeline is a bit big for the bed I believe.

Did you mean the 60V batteries? I am not familiar with a 20V version unless you are talking about the inflator? The 60V compressor will do 135PSI 1.2 SCFM at 90PSI. Not sure what the PUMA one will do as far as SCFM, but for the money I would buy the DeWalt personally.

 

Also, be aware that alot of things like compressors pull alot more amps at start up than running, so be sure you are reading the specs right.

Good generators aren't cheap...cheap generators aren't good. Honda is a household brand loyal product in my camp.

Anything that costs over $10 at HF is a hard pass for me. But I do buy one-and-done tools there sometimes to preserve my tool set. And I have (reluctantly) bought the $12 pack of sand paper there.
