My dealer in Carlsbad wants $60 to diagnose this as an actual problem before they do any repairs, said it would take 5-6 hours for that to completed and an additional 3-4 to get it done. Any anyone else have the same report?

It is less than 10min for the entire shebang. The typical shop WOs that were posted in the ECU Update thread is 0.4hr.

I suppose I’m just going to bark my way up to the manager. I really don’t want to leave my truck 5 hours at a dealer where they “conclude their examinations”.

I just “stumbled” across this thread and happy to hear there may be a fix. I have a 2020 pro about two months old and that is the only complaint I have. When taking off when it shifts its like it looses all power!

Late MY 2020s had the TSB applied on the line. The latest ECU ID is 04B81 for ATs and 04B91 for MTs.

I think there is an "UPDATE for your trans" the Service tech said when I asked him about it... "No problem, we'll check and get that done for you"! Some people just wanna be Dicks!

In the TS software screen-read, there will be a calibration ID number. The last two digits will be zeros. The prior last 4 digits will be the four-digit identifier.

A word of attention; when setting up the software for computer recognition of the cable, be sure and download the drivers (here) for the ECU flash functionality. That will also load drivers for merely using the software to read the ECU (if not flashing). You can use the simpler driver package but I say kill two birds with one stone.

    You're welcome.

I do not know if the ECU is labeled with the software version. It would be a PITA to pull and see. Much easier to use a phone app like Carista or OBD Fusion, a handheld OBD scanner, or TechStream.

I got this done at Pedersen Toyota in Fort Collins, CO this past weekend, and things so far are a lot better. They gave me a bit of a runaround in that I first called and asked if there was any sort of software update for the issues I was experiencing, was told there was, and made an appointment to validate and apply the fix. What they failed to communicate is that "appointment" to them for this issue meant leaving it for the day, and that just guaranteed that someone would look at it that day. After 2 hours and nobody touching the truck, I had to leave. The service manager admitted they screwed up, and worked me in on a Saturday. The service writer (seemed like a lead) was able to get it looked at first thing and got me out in about 1.5 hours.

if anyone is in the area and wants more details, let me know.

Was talking trucks with my friend (we both own AT 2018s) and we both had the TSB-0062-18 installed on our trucks at separate times. Both of us really didn't notice much of a difference in drivability/gear hunting/truck surging when hitting the gas (merging onto a freeway).

Personally, I have tried different ways to remedy the gear hunting.
    1. ECT - I experimented with this shortly after purchasing the truck but it was so new to me I sort of dismissed it.
    2. Shiftsense Pro v2 - I tried all 3 modes and they make an impact, but not "ground breaking" or enough to fix the hunting gears.
    3. This TSB - again, no noticeable difference.

A few days ago I clicked my ECT button just to re-evaluate it after owning the truck a year now.. and have fallen in love with it. Not sure what I missed the first go round but I plan to stick with using that as my fix going forward. Just interesting the TSB-0062-18 receives so much praise yet both my friend and I feel it didn't do much for improvement.

It may well depend on what year you are. Despite what some others think, Toyota did indeed make progress from year to year. This update especially, but even the one prior, made a significant difference on my 2016. And yes, the ECT button, on any of the updates makes significant changes, especially with respect to holding gears longer/differently.

I can't imagine having the truck a year and discovering the ECT. It must have put a smile on you (and your buddy's) face!

I finally got the TSB Tune done on my truck, does it usually take awhile to settle in?

Awesome! They should have done the Resets, but that step is not in the TSB for the flash or the flashing instructions TSB for all models. You should notice the change immediately, and the tune should be mostly settled in about 20mi.

I put about 30 miles on it so far but it seems to have an abrasive idle, loss of power in 6th gear, and a loss of 1 MPG but did feel a little snappier in 2nd and 3rd gears.
