Scheels today, shelves are bare of almost everything ammo and reloading supplies. I picked up a couple boxes of factory stuff to try out and take lengths and ogive measurements and last remaining box of these 80g

The previous owner added an spike dynacomp flash suppressor, a Midwest industries gas tube with rail and a primary arms red dot. I gave the guy $750 cash.

 

This is my first AK, however the design has proven reliable. Specifically this model has proven itself as "end of the world" reliable. if only the 7x39 round was universal in the US....
For now, I have a new toy to play with, and ammo for this seems available to plink with.

 

So I trudged back to the range on my property late this morning. I dumped roughly 200 rounds of wolf 123grn, trying to understand the AK. It was an agonizing learning experience. I have had decades of experience with M14s, M4s, and all the various civilian counter parts (Snappy, on point, ready to rock response). The AK was agonizingly slow in cycling. Transitions seemed equally slow, however the rifle cycled at the transitions, just in time. I don't know .... I could be slowing down in my transitions, the C39V2 met the requirement (just in time), but it was not waiting on me like an M4. It simply responded on time ....

I don't know .... more training time is required to nail it, or get used to it.

 

Tried doing a polish and spring job on my stock Ruger trigger. Noticeable improvement but trigger pull was still a touch over 5 lbs. Decided to order a CMC Flat Trigger (3.5 lbs) as well as a Magpul grip that is a little more perpendicular than stock. I plan on moving the replaced trigger over to my Extar EP9...

 

Definitely a different feel from the AR/M4 platform.

Which red dot have you decided on?

 

Probably the Vortex Venom, 3MOA. It’s easier to replace the battery on it vs the Viper.
