I was puzzled by that one in daylight with the headlights on. It sounds like you hit all the stuff, esp with a charger connected. 1.5a is gonna take a while.

I decided to buy a battery maintainer that has 12v supply mode. Haven't had any issues with that.

@ktbell444 what model of battery maintainer do you use?

hi, really helpful thread. this will be the first time I am trying this. bought the tractrix cable, have TIS installed. I have some basic questions that I hope you can help with.

    1) I only have a battery maintainer (trickle charger), I don't think it will accomplish what is needed. My guess is that this recommendation is just in case the truck battery goes bad during the update, so that the flash doesn't stop mid stream. I do have one of those big jump starter lithium batteries. should I just hook that up instead?

    2) in the original and first post for the update instructions it says "key out of ignition". for newer trucks with push button start there is obviously no key. but with key out of ignition that means that the flash should be done with the tacoma completely off?

    thank you!

Not sure about the jump starter, but a few posts up I shared a link to what I purchased. Works great every time I use it.

Yes, key can be in the ignition but in the off position. The update file will walk you through, step-by-step, on what to do and when to turn the ignition on and off (you'll do it multiple times).

I used my maintainer on the 8amp setting.

Start with the truck off (don't push the button) then follow the instructions on your computer. Acc is one push (foot off the brake!) And on is two pushes.

keep an eye on this thread and the first page post by @tonered. All the information you would ever want to know is here - and the link where you can purchase the Tactrix from legit manufacturer.

thank you everyone, successfully upgraded this morning. a few notes that might help:

    1) when launching the upgrade file it complained that it couldn't connect to the network and that "updated messaging" or something like that would not work. I ended up just hitting cancel and proceeded with the update as normal.

    2) I have a Noco Boost XL portable jump starter that I tried to see if it could use. It didn't work, perhaps because its meant to be a jump starter not a battery maintainer. I think they have other models that will work, but apparently the Boost is not meant to maintain a constant supply.

    3) the first time I tried the upgrade the app said my battery was too low (11.8). I ended up disconnecting my amp/sub and that allowed the upgrade to continue.

overall I am very pleased with the upgrade. a lot of the "dead spots" in the gas pedal seem to be eliminated and less overall gear hunting. In the short trip I took after the upgrade the computer is reporting slightly decreased gas mileage -- I am fine with this and it would make sense as the new code seems to keep the rpms slight higher.

Hi... Does T-SB-0092-20 (or any other) address the driveability/trans shifting issues on the 2017 Tacomas with automatic trans?
I have a 2017 4x4 DCLB Sport that I've had since new. I like the truck quite a bit, but the transmission shifting issues have driven me crazy since day one, to the point I'm about ready to throw in the towel and get rid of the thing.

There was an earlier TSB (sorry, don't remember the number) that the dealer applied, but it made zero difference.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

(I didn't read all 200+ pages of the thread, but I did read quite a bit of it... including several searches of the thread... but couldn't seem to find a straight-forward answer.)

No, that T-SB does not cover you. All you need to know is on the first page. It addresses the T-SB you're looking for.

0092-20 is JUST FOR THE 19 AND 20'Ss. that will not apply to your 17. you will have to find the tsb for your specific current ecu. it is easier to read the ecu with an obd2 reader, techstream, or the ov tune software, get your current ecu number, then look to see if you need a new update for your current ecu calibration, or not.

    hope that helps some.

If you have a tactrix cable you can hook to your truck with a laptop and update by double clicking the cuw file associated with your truck on post number 1 of this thread. Simple, just follow on screen instructions tells ya step by step.

Loaded TS on to my laptop per instructions but when connecting to vehicle I get a pop up window stating "Critical Update: This version of software became obsolete August 15th 2019. You MUST update to the newest version...please download latest version from TIS" when I click on the button "Update Now" within the window I'm directed to the TIS website but can't log in without name and password.

Maybe I missed something but I can't get TS to connect to my vehicle without getting this pop up window every time. Appreciate any help.

Close TS, disconnect from the internet, and try again. You will get a warning and something about 30 uses left. It will work fine. Once in a while you may have to connect to the internet, let it check for an update (and fail), then disconnect from the internet again.
