worth it if the turbo upgrade was done right

best bet was the factory supercharger, factory installed, factory warranty, but don't bump the boost without more fuel, Kelley still above $20K on this 2003

I thought the superchargers were installed by dealers, not the factory. Do you have a vin to verify?

That's right, there were no superchargers installed on Tacomas from the factory. The TRD supercharger was an aftermarket item through TRD that you could have the dealer install or install yourself (or another shop). Just like the TRD intake, TRD headers, TRD exhaust etc.

Sometimes dealers would install them and then sell the trucks like that as a special dealer package, but Toyota didn't put them on at the factory. Like when you see those brand new Tacomas with 6" lifts and armor for sale at the dealership, Toyota didn't build it like that...the dealership did.

I think its just pretty common for people to mix up 'factory installed' with 'dealer installed'

    Thanks for confirming,

I always thought if Toyota would have plopped the supercharger in from the factory the SRunner would be much more respected as a "sport truck" and more sought after today. It was kind of an unknown shredder for its time since not many knew you could add the sc, much like the 500 horsepower TRD supercharged Tundra that could even smoke the darn Ram SRT10 with a Viper engine!

Yeah it was nice when they offered it back then, back when TRD actually had some real performance parts you could buy...now TRD is just more cosmetic add-ons

The e-locker that comes with the TRD package is the only item I can think of that Toyota would put in from the factory but from everything I've read, the superchargers were not.

The big advantage to buying it from the dealership and having them put it on though was the warranty it came with, even though a lot of dealers make warranty claims a pain.

Even nicer that these factory superchargers are still available decades later!! The factory has stopped making many parts for these trucks already but you can still get the finest upgrade ever offered by Toyota themselves for these rigs!

TRD doesn't sell superchargers anymore :( They stopped several years ago, but you can still buy it through Magnuson...same exact supercharger just without the TRD branding on it.

They also stopped selling the TRD headers which was the other nice performance add-on you could get back then, but no more. There was also a TRD 7th injector kit they made for a short while for the 5VZE but those are rare to come by nowadays. The URD one is still around though

Just noticed the truck went for $11k, not too shabby for all that faded paint...

Highly doubt that 16k mile odometer though!

If it really does only have 16k on it then whoever bought it for $11k got it for an absolute steal, I would have thought a low mileage S-runner would bring in at least double that.

The only S-runners I still see around are beat to hell and being used as landscape equipment haulers lol.

You are right about the same part without TRD letters, I was actually sad when I found out the logo was gone!

And you can also get the 4 cylinder version from Alpine (original manufacture) through LCE still. We can take a peak at mine to see where the letters appear to be grinded off where it meets the throttle body up top!

I saw one about a month ago, it was totally trashed all original, red, and had those huge metal over the cab racks and was being used as what appeared to be a garbage hauler with stacks of crap loaded up maybe 3 or 4 feet above the roof line!

I could barely believe it and almost wanted to save that truck myself... almost.

There are still decent S-Runners out there. A guy I know down in SD was selling this one a few months ago, SC, X-Runner wheels, 175K, in great shape for $7500-8000. (I should have bought it!)
There was also a clean step side on CL in SLO for about the same price.

They are hard to come by, but they are out there for sure. Guess the good news is you can get some deals on these trucks still if you find someone that doesnt really know how rare they are.

I would have bought that black one with the sc and Xrunner wheels too if I saw it, and I am not even shopping for one!!
