I just install a Tailgate lock on my son’s 2016 Tacoma using Mcgard lock # 76029
Do not use both plastic inserts , cut plastic on band 1/2 Off...
Amazon $$16.00+ I order a extra key from Mcgard..$14.67...this extra cost almost the same price as the lock w/ key...

Note: pre Feb-built 2016 Tacoma tailgate bushing is no longer made...after feb-2016 bushing is a bit longer...new ones will not fit correctly..unless you shave it...
You can order o old style bushing from a3D - company call Shapeways -item #66143-04020...approx $17.00. It works! Genuine Toyota bushing is less than $5.00...
Lava road ...Kona ..I miss the fishing!
    Aloha
    See ironman4x4 lift kits...

Sorry...Tacoma tailgates ( and most trucks today) are design to be able remove tailgate off the bed of the truck for loading purposes.
This lock goes over the passenger side hinge slot, making it harder to remove or steal your tailgate...if your tailgate is NOT lock with key...this will make it easier to remove / steal the tailgate..
Honolulu police mention ..that lots of trucks (especially Tacoma truck) owners are finding there tailgate missing / stolen.
This lock will slow this down and may prevent a missing tailgate.
Always keep your tailgate lock! There after market devices that will work with key fob..to lock the tailgate..as you lock doors of the truck.
Two kinds of locks....key fob lock and hinge cup lock....

If you never did remove your tailgate? Try it ! ..easy to do and steal!
Craigslist? ...don’t be surprised...yours maybe for sale? Or someplace?
    Aloha
Tailgate bushing is total different topic..(.hinge lock goes over this bushing housing)
Bushing is this plastic insert where tailgate slide into...sometimes it will get broken.
    Wish I could post pictures...anyone?
    Aloha
